You graduated from university thinking that somewhere along the way, you’d figure out what you really wanted to do.
Years later, you’re in a job that makes you doubt you’re ever going to find work you love.
You can keep searching and searching, but if you don’t know what you’re looking for, you’re never going to find it.
This course is for you if you...
This course will take you through a
rigorous and comprehensive career decision-making process
that helps you explore which options are the most suitable for you, based on objective criteria.
By the end of the course, you will have identified your direction forward and will have committed to an action plan starting to take you in the direction you’ve chosen.
To underpin this you will also learn how to deal with any cognitive or emotional barriers to change (such as fear – a major reason why many people remain ‘stuck’).
The objective is to get everyone ‘unstuck’ and moving towards a more meaningful career that meets their criteria and aligns with their values. The final session, 3 months after the others, will be used to track progress and help you stay on track with your plan.
Chartered Occupational Psychologist Rob Archer specialises in helping people who are stuck and in career paralysis. This course is about the psychology of getting unstuck, identifying your best direction and moving forward with purpose.

Rob set up The Career Psychologist in 2008 with the aim of helping those who are stuck in terms of career direction. Rob writes regularly on the psychology of career change and meaning in work on his blog, Headstuck! In addition, Rob is a Director at LPP Consulting, a fast-growing performance consultancy, where his main areas of focus are employee engagement and resilience, culture and behaviour change, training, coaching, leadership development and assessment.

Back when we wanted to transition away from our management consulting jobs we were frustrated by how little support there was for making an exciting career change. There is lots of career guidance for treading the conventional corporate path but very little for doing something more adventurous. We started Escape the City to solve this problem. Life is too short to do work that doesn’t matter to you.
We are thrilled to be launching The Escape School. The courses we are providing will be delivered by experts in a wide range of fields. We are creating a syllabus that covers what we wish we had learnt when we were making our escapes. We only want to provide courses that reflect what you want to learn - so please drop us an email to let us know what would be useful: email@example.com.
We hope that you join The Escape School mailing list and that we get the chance to play a part in your own escape.
All the best,
Dom and Rob

“Having tried working with a career consultant before I knew it would take something special to meet another one. Once I got to knew Rob I was not disappointed. Rob has helped me with my career challenges in a way that I would doubt I could have achieved with anyone else. Being from a similar background as myself and with his extensive qualifications in the realm of (career) psychology I found myself going from someone that was completely stuck to someone who had a new found vision and values-driven direction due to his expertise. My renewed focus on the most important things in my life as well as my career and to do so in a way that is smart, brave and exciting is largely thanks to his understanding, presence and ongoing support.”

“Rob has been an invaluable resource for me in my career and, ultimately, in my life. Often times, I’ve felt like I was at a crossroads and have not known how to, either maximize the position I was in, or search out a different career path. Rob allowed me to see far more clearly what I needed to do in order to take the next step. So far, his guidance has absolutely made a measurable difference in my career. I really appreciate and trust him and would recommend him to anyone and everyone. He has a knack to be compassionate and empathetic without being patronizing and instead being empowering.”
“Rob has helped me greatly at a time when I was confused about my career direction and unsatisfied with my choices. He is fantastic in what he does, draws out the best in you and methodically helps you find out a career direction that brings satisfaction and personal success. We did some amazing work that helped me solidify what I want, who I am professionally and clarify my goals, values and strengths. I would recommend Rob for anyone who wants to make the most out of one’s professional life, and ultimately, be the driver of one’s own happiness and success.”
