The Abram Wilson Foundation believes that greatness can be achieved by anyone who has the right support. That’s why we help children, young people and talented artists discover and express their greatness through performing arts projects. In particular, we like to offer support to people going through challenging or transitional periods in their lives. It might be adjusting to life at secondary school, launching a professional career after university or moving that career to the next level. Through our inclusive projects, we nurture confidence, talent and creative thinking. In schools, we work with vulnerable children and young people facing socio-economic barriers by providing a platform for them to produce their best work and unlock their full potential. We also nurture talented emerging and mid-career artists who are at risk of their potential being unfulfilled by providing vital networks and opportunities to develop their vision. Although our roots are in jazz, our projects are multidisciplinary, uniting music, dance, drama and spoken word. Our aim is to create a holistic approach to working with young people and artists further along their journey, allowing them to collaborate and grow together.

About us

VISION

Our vision is that everyone can use creative expression to unlock their full potential and live out their greatness.

MISSION

Our mission is to help children, young people and talented artists who are facing a challenging or transitional period in their lives discover and express their greatness through performing arts projects.

AIMS

Achieve Your Greatness - Inspiring children and young people between 11 to 16 years from disadvantaged backgrounds to use the arts to imagine their future selves

Know Your Greatness - Laying the foundations for emerging artists with fewer opportunities than their peers to sustain a long-term career as a full-time professional artist.

Live Your Greatness - Working with reputable mid-career artists who are facing significant barriers in transitioning to the next stage of their careers

Greatness in Togetherness - Bringing together the key elements of Achieve Your Greatness, Know Your Greatness and Live Your Greatness to create exciting educational and artistic opportunities

OUR VALUES

Growing up in New Orleans, Abram Wilson was steeped in the music of jazz and blues from childhood. He learned his craft inspired and mentored by iconic musicians such as Wynton and Branford Marsalis, Terence Blanchard and many more. The roots of the African American story are inseparable from its musical heritage. For Abram and jazz musicians around the world, this music represents the triumph of the human spirit over adversity.

We all face adversity at some point in our lives. For many jazz has acted as a symbol of triumph over struggle which still has relevance today. The Foundation aims to use the values of jazz to encourage young people and artists to overcome barriers on their path to greatness. These are the values Abram lived by and they underpin everything we do.

No fear - Taking the path less trodden. Embracing risk. Discovering
Hope and resilience - Overcoming adversity. Strengthening the spirit
A living tradition - Honouring our history. Making our voices heard
Inclusive and engaging - Appealing to many audiences
Collaborative - Creating across art forms
Educational - Sharing our experiences. Helping others to learn from them
International - Inspired and influenced by a global community
