AfID ( is seeking an outgoing and articulate graduate to support the work of the Marketing and Programmes teams coordinating and promoting the work of our volunteers and our many charity partners across the world. The successful candidate will be involved with, and in some cases responsible for managing volunteer applications and overseas assignments, charity partner correspondence and copy writing for social networking sites, newsletters and the new AfID website.

The role will also involve a number of adhoc projects with the Overseas Programmes teams as they support our 145 charity partners in 28 countries across the world.

This role will provide an excellent opportunity to gain invaluable experience in Marketing and Programme Management in the International Development sector. The internship if successful will lead to an offer of a permanent position.

Please note: Candidates must be able and committed to a long term permanent position.

The successful candidate will be expected to work at our Hammersmith from Monday to Friday (9.30am - 5.00pm)

We are seeking an extremely articulate, organised and commercially-minded graduate with proven communications, diverse writing, customer/client liaison and administration skills. The successful candidate will be a great communicator with imagination, sensitivity, excellent inter-personal skills and a real passion for charity and international development. They must be able to present themselves to the highest corporate standards.

  • Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills in English, including presentation skills.
  • Candidates must be able to create original copy from a range of sources for a range of audiences and media.
  • Candidates should be able to provide and discuss examples of their written work. A short telephone and written exercise will form part of the interview process.
  • Demonstrate an ability to work efficiently delivering high quality outcomes to very tight deadlines & targets
  • Demonstrate an ability to deal sensitively and effectively with people from all backgrounds, cultures and locations from junior members of staff to Directors and Chief Executives.
  • Demonstrate an ability to establish, develop and manage relationships with key individuals and organisations
  • Be an excellent team player and willingness both to take direction and use own initiative, as appropriate
  • Candidates must be highly numerate and detail orientated
  • Previous accounting knowledge is not essential.


The successful applicant will receive a monthly stipend of £400.

Due to the large number of applicants and our own limited resources we are not able to reply to unsuccessful candidates.

Successful applicants will be interviewed on the telephone before being invited to interview at our W14 offices. We will be interviewing as soon as we see good candidates and if we like you you will be offered the role - so please do not leave it to the last minute to apply.

Accounting for International Development is a multi-award winning volunteer services organisation which provides small grassroot NGOs and International charities with an ongoing coaching and mentoring programme designed to strengthen their financial management and planning capabilities. In the last two years we have arranged assignments for over 250 qualified accountants with more than 100 charities, NGOs and social enterprises in 25 developing countries.

AfID volunteers have assisted in the development, and in some cases survival, of many charity organisations. They provide impartial, non-judgemental one to one support; coaching local people on all matters relating to the organisations finances.
