An opportunity to work on a rewarding volunteer placement with one of our Malawi partner charities. This small organisation supports out-of-school youths aged 13-29 through running development activities to improve the skills, values and education of local young people in Kasungu, Malawi.

The organisation’s programmes include creating a feedback system to help local government improve its services, helping youth clubs promote leadership and life skills, promoting awareness of sexual health, and promoting gender awareness to prison inmates. The organisation also generates additional income by providing low-cost ICT lessons.

A first volunteer accountant is required to help build the organisation’s financial management capacity. The role would involve a financial health assessment – understanding the structure of the organisation, assessing its existing financial procedures and controls, and making recommendations/ implementing changes deemed necessary. The assessment and reports will form the basis of future AfID assignments.

The organisation is near the beautiful Kasungu National park, renowned for its archaeological sites as well as its elephants and antelopes, and within striking distance of the capital, Lilongwe, and the famous Lake Malawi.

Please bear in mind that if you feel this placement is not quite right for you, we have hundreds of other opportunities across Asia, Africa and South America.

Through AfID you could be budgeting with a health centre in Haiti, coaching a school bookkeeper in Burundi, financial reporting for a disability charity in Cambodia or mentoring an INGO's new FC in the Philippines.

Accounting for International Development (AfID) arranges tailor-made volunteer placements from 2 weeks to 12 months with charities all over the developing world. Let us know the causes you’re interested in, your skills and country preferences, and we will put together an overseas placement which allows you to use your accountancy skills and help charities at the same time.
