ABOUT

AfID has a chance for a volunteer accountant to join a new Indian partner in a beautiful location and support a fantastic cause.

Our new charity partner in India is a performing arts-based NGO in rural Kanchipuram district in the southern state of Tamil Nadu. They aim to transform the lives of the disadvantaged through using Kattaikuttu - a narrative theatre art form – as a medium to create self-respect, artistic delight and sustainable livelihoods. They currently have a theatre school as well as an apprenticeship scheme that aims to create successful performers as well as train the students in higher studies or vocational training elsewhere.

You will be the first volunteer and as such your role will be akin to conducting an internal audit – understanding the structure of the organisation, assessing its existing financial procedures and controls, and making recommendations / implementing changes that you deem necessary.

Apart from the general first assignment brief, the organisation would like help with creating a financial manual and as they’ve recently shifted to the Tally accounting system, a general audit of their recent transition to the system. They would also like assistance with mentoring a trainee from the school who is currently working in the accounts department.

Kattaikuttu are used to hosting international volunteers and as such have a volunteer house where food and accommodation are free of cost if your assignment is longer than one month.
