Accounting for International Development is working
with a small progressive organisation which uses football as a tool for social
change. Whilst its primary programme has been the delivery of interactive
activities that allow youths to explore issues around HIV/AIDS, TB and other
health concerns, it recently initiated a programme increasing awareness of corruption
among local youths involving teaching them effective methods and skills to
prevent corruption. This initiative was well-received and got significant exposure
in local media.
As the first AfID volunteer at the organisation your role would be akin to
conducting an internal audit. You will need to gain an understanding of the
organisation and its structure, assessing its existing financial procedures and
controls, and making recommendations / implementing changes that you deem
necessary. This is of vital importance because not only will you help the
organisation during your assignment but your assessment and reports will form
the basis for future assignments.
Additionally, they have requested support in identifying a suitable accounting
system for them to use (currently all accounts are recorded on Excel), and with
managing the reporting requirements of their donors.
April onwards 3-4 weeks
Accounting for International Development (A f I D) arranges customisable voluntary placements tailor-made to fit your availability, skills and preferences. We are now supporting more than 150 NGOs and charities across 28 countries and we desperately need the assistance of more volunteer accountants to coach and mentor some amazing local people.
Candidates from all age ranges, levels of experience and specialisms are needed.
Volunteer assignments between 2 weeks and 12 months in length form part of an on-going strategy to build the financial management capacity and long term sustainability of development organisations across Africa and Asia. These organisations, which include street kid centres, health clinics, international charities, social enterprises and microfinance institutes, are doing amazing work to tackle extreme poverty in their communities but sadly have little or no access to vital accounting skills and services.
