Our partner is a community rights-based organisation which seeks to support marginalised groups specifically through projects in sustainable livelihoods and food security, gender-equality, water and sanitation and social mobilisation in local governance.

They have 3 staff members working in the finance team, all with good fluency in English. As the first AfID volunteer at the organisation your role would be akin to conducting an internal audit . You will need to gain an understanding of the organisation and its structure, assessing its existing financial procedures and controls, and making recommendations / implementing changes that you deem necessary. This is of vital importance because not only will you help the organisation during your assignment but your assessment and reports will form the basis for future assignments. This role will last for three to four weeks.

The organisation has also set up a cooperative and micro-finance scheme as well as a nursery/day care centre on the premises and a school with c.1000 students opposite the main building. As such, there will be plenty of opportunities for volunteers to get involved with all sorts of different financial and non-financial activities - for example business planning for the cooperative and micro-finance operations and helping out with English teaching and arranging activities for students.
