Accounting for International Development (AfID) arranges customisable voluntary placements tailor-made to fit your availability, skills and preferences. We are now supporting more than 150 charities and NGOs across 28 countries and we desperately need the assistance of more volunteer accountants to coach and mentor some amazing local people.

Our partner is a Holland based civic society organisation with an Asian focus in the country of Cambodia. They aim to create sustainable change in the lives of children in rural areas by combining social business, civic driven change and investing in children’s safety.

They currently need assistance as 3 of their projects are being run as social enterprises and their accountant currently only has experience of non-profit accounting. Apart from the standard first volunteer assignment brief, they would specifically like advice on setting up a robust financial controls system, especially when it comes to tracking expenses. Ideally they would like a flexible model that they can use when scaling up the number of businesses they assist.

As the first AfID volunteer at the organisation your role would be to conduct an internal audit. You will need to gain an understanding of the organisation and its structure, assessing its existing financial procedures and controls, and making recommendations whilst implementing changes that you deem necessary.

This is of vital importance because not only will you help the organisation during your assignment but your assessment and reports will form the basis for future assignments. As a first volunteer, the assignment will require some flexibility and sensitivity on your part as it will introduce AfID’s programme to the partner and will provide us with accurate financial information about them.

Please note this placement will incur the AfID Tailored Volunteer Programme fee: £690; Non EU Residents* - £575; Concessions – £495.

For more information please contact us on +44 (0) 208 741 7000 or email info@afid.org.uk. Please forward our details to any accountants in your network that you think would be interested in our work.
