Our partner is a child-centred organisation working in fishing and farming communities in Ghana, tackling issues around child labour and slavery. They have programmes to rescue and rehabilitate children who were subject to or at-risk of becoming labourers or slaves, providing them with a refuge centre and education. Additionally, they work to sensitise the community about labour practices and their rights.
You could be the first AfID volunteer on placement at this organisation. Your role would be akin to conducting an internal audit – understanding the structure of the organisation, assessing its existing financial procedures and controls, and making recommendations / implementing changes that you deem necessary. As the first volunteer, one of your key responsibilities would be to determine in what scope AfID continues to work with the partner organisation. It will require some flexibility and sensitivity on your part as your assignment will introduce AfID’s programme to the partner and will provide us with accurate financial information about them. Your assessment and reports will form the basis of future AfID assignments.
In addition to the standard first assignment brief, they would really like support around creating and managing budgets. They need help allocating core costs across programmes budget, creating an organisational budget, and educating programmes staff on managing their budget lines, accounting for their spending and reporting back to the finance officer.
