Our partner started off as a children’s home in Kenya, but it has now grown into an organisation that addresses numerous issues.  One of its main programmes is a food supply programme which ensures approximately 12,000 school children across 17 schools are fed. In addition, our partner runs a family empowerment programme that helps teach parenting skills and enables parents to become economically independent through setting up their own businesses.

A health programme also exists to ensure the community has access to treatments. The organisation also has income generating activities to enable it to run. These include a dairy farm, greenhouses to grow food for the school feeding programme and for sale, and a travel company.

A second volunteer is required on assignment at our partner. The focus will be on the development of processes and controls. Robust internal controls are especially needed for the farm, the primary school program and the children’s home. The other main focus of the assignment will be on training-on-the-job for the accountant, junior accountant and the financial director.

Alongside this, our partner would appreciate support in putting together a cash flow statement and forecasts for the coming year. Ideally they would like to able to use the accounting/ financial information to help make better management decisions and would like training on reading and understanding monthly management accounts, budgets and forecasts. Finally, they would like cost calculations and profit margin calculations on the income generating projects.

This project is to last for between 6-8 weeks. A volunteer would ideally start in November. AfID’s partner will provide volunteer accommodation free of charge.

If you would like to apply for this or any of AfID’s other roles please contact us on +44(0)208 741 7000 or email info@afid.org.uk
