Accounting for International Development (AfID) arranges customisable voluntary placements tailor-made to fit your availability, skills and preferences. We are now supporting more than 150 charities and NGOs across 28 countries and we desperately need the assistance of more volunteer accountants to coach and mentor some amazing local people.

Our partner is an independent primary and secondary school. In addition the organisation has also set up a farm school and is looking to set up other income-generating projects to support the running of the school.

You will be the fifth volunteer on placement at this organisation. The last volunteer spent four months there late last year. A new accountant started a very short while before the AfID volunteer went on placement. Based on the circumstances of the organisation, our volunteer was asked to bring the accounting function up-to-date to cover the period where our partner was without an accountant; secondly, it was to train the new accountant. Our volunteer did a thorough job; that said, the founder still feels that the local accountant will benefit from further mentoring to build his confidence around the use of Quickbooks. The accountant would be expected to go in and assess the organisation’s set up and the accountant’s progress, mentoring along the way.  The founder of our partner is very charismatic and has strong ideas about how they want to see their organisation develop. With this in mind, recommendations/ suggestions to progress would be welcomed.

This role would last between 3-12 weeks ideally starting ASAP. An experienced accountant who has previously worked in the charity sector would be very suited to this. French speaking would be an added bonus for when it comes to socialising, although all work will be conducted in English.
