The focus of our partner is empowering women in the rural areas of Ghana. They have 3 primary projects: 1) Poverty alleviation through income generating activities ; 2) Social microfinance – offering small loans to groups of women to enable them to start their own businesses and run their households; 3) Sexual and reproductive health.

You will be the third volunteer on placement. Our first volunteer, focussed on: 1) educating the staff on finance/accounting; 3) strengthening financial controls and processes. The role of the second volunteer was firstly to see how the accountants had got on after first assignment and building on the volunteer’s  work, and help accounting for stock in the bead and batik business properly.

Our partner is looking for a volunteer who can do a detailed review, firstly to ensure that all accounting records are in place to prepare the year-end accounts. In particular, you will need to assess:

• Whether the bank and other balance sheet accounts have been reconciled

• Whether recurring and other journals have been regularly entered

• Whether stock taking has been completed accurately

Time permitting, other tasks could include:

• Future financial planning

• Preparation of a Finance Manual

Please note that overseas assignments, in this case Ghana, will incur a placement fee as per the AfID

Our partner would like someone for 4-6 weeks, they would ideally like the volunteer to support them in February.
Tailored Volunteer Programme fee scale (see website for more details).
