This project provides a great opportunity for someone to fast-track their knowledge and experience of the NGO sector, and would be beneficial to anyone looking to move into the sector in the longer term.

The Finance Consultant role will support the successful delivery of the Finance Transformation Project, a strategic organisational priority for our partner. The project will address systematic weakness in financial management that have been identified, and deliver changes to systems, processes and people capacity to ensure Finance can add value to the organisation in supporting our mission.

The role will be responsible for taking forward specific assignments and contributing to the successful delivery of the wider project. The role will provide technical support for specific workstreams. Working for the Project Lead, the role will deliver against discrete workstream deliverables. Examples of projects could range from finalising the financial management framework to creating and implementing minimum standards for country programme accounting.

Working in an international environment, the operating context requires a flexible approach. The nature of these workstreams is often complex and with wide-ranging impact and implications, therefore an approach to simplify where possible is key.

The role is a 2 - 6 month project dependant on the flexibility of the volunteer, starting in March and based in London. There is the option of full-time or part-time in the office or remotely. If remote work is taken up then attendance to the office every now and then will be required.

Key Accountabilities/ Responsibilities:

  • Delivering pre-defined assignments on behalf of the Project Lead.
  • Proactively identifying and manage project risks, as appropriate
  • Monitoring and driving the resolution of issues.
  • Documenting recommendations and develop guidance and procedures as applicable.
  • Managing communication channels with project stakeholders.
  • Simplifying, wherever possible, the outcomes and recommendations.

Person Specification:

  • Educated to a degree level
  • CCAB qualified
  • Experience of working in project environments.
  • Track record of successful project delivery across wide functional and geographical areas
  • Experience in working in the NGO sector.

If you are looking to volunteer with AfID and use your accounting skills to give back to the society please attend 31st March Workshop.
