About Action Tutoring
Action Tutoring is an exciting educational charity providing low cost tuition to schools to support pupils preparing for GCSEs, who are at risk of leaving school without basic qualifications. Through our network of volunteer tutors we provide tutoring in English, Maths and Science to help pupils achieve at least a C grade in these subjects at a crucial point in their education.

About the Role
Action Tutoring has grown rapidly over the last 3 years, now operating in 30 schools in London, 10 schools in Manchester and recently established in Sheffield. We have received funding to expand our work further across England and are looking to appoint self employed Schools Facilitators to carry this work forward in both Birmingham and Liverpool on a consultancy contract. Working closely with the Action Tutoring Director and Regional Manager you will be responsible for the co-ordination of the Action Tutoring programmes with schools in your particular region.

Job Description:

-        Overseeing the delivery of a pilot programme in the new region for Action Tutoring, delivering the programme in Spring/ Summer 2014 in 4 schools in the region

-        Developing relationships with schools to partner with across the region

-        Establishing relationships with relevant organisations in the region in partnership with the Regional Manager

-        Developing and delivering a marketing strategy to recruit volunteer tutors in the region, in partnership with Action Tutoring’s Volunteer Recruiter

-        Managing the process for recruiting volunteer tutors, including quality checks and safeguarding policies

-        Delivering training sessions for volunteer tutors in partnership with the schools

-        Monitoring and evaluating the delivery of the programme in each school

-        Developing a strategy for rolling out the Action Tutoring programme in the region beyond June 2014, in partnership with Action Tutoring’s Regional Manager and the Action Tutoring Director

-        Updating and reporting to Action Tutoring Programme Director on a regular basis


Person Specification

Good understanding of the aims of Action Tutoring and passionate about the vision

Good academic qualifications, educated to degree level

Excellent written and communication skills

Ability to work well with others as part of a small pioneering team

Ability to take initiative, work independently and see things through; Dynamic and enthusiastic

Excellent people skills, able to work with people from different backgrounds and 
communicate to different audiences in a personable manner; High standards of professionalism

Experience of volunteer management

Excellent administrative and organisational skills with strong attention to detail

Experience of project management

Ability to undertake evaluative work and pay close attention to monitoring processes

Experience of working with schools/ young people

Computer literate, able to use excel, word and powerpoint

Public Speaking Experience (Desirable)

Openness to learning, development and feedback

Willingness to work flexible hours when needed
