We are looking for an experienced Management Accountant, who has worked in the private and not for profit sectors, to join our rapidly growing team. The position is based in London, with potential travel in Africa. 

Reporting to the Executive Director (London) the Management Accountant will prepare, develop and analyse management accounting information; and provide high quality support service to the directors and business unit managers

Key responsibilities include:

  • Maintenance of the books of account and preparation of monthly management and annual statutory accounts
  • Ensuring compliance with external financial obligations
    Provision of financial reports to grant providers
  • Maintaining a robust system of internal financial controls
    Overseeing field office accounting

Detailed duties:

  • Overseeing bookkeeping, payroll, VAT filing and compliance, and timesheet systems
  • Responsible for the production of management accounts
  • Producing, monthly and quarterly management reports for directors and business unit managers
  • Analysing business unit results and variances and providing feedback to management
  • Ensuring that grant income is efficiently allocated to business units and that restricted funding is properly accounted for
  • Review staff time allocations to projects, particularly those where AgDevCo is acting as developer to ensure capitalisation is justified.
    Preparation of cashflow statements and forecasts and managing treasury activities, ensuring surplus funds are invested effectively in line with the treasury policy. 
    Maintaining and enhancing the integrity and efficiency of the accounting systems and ensuring sound internal controls. 
    Setting up and overseeing field office accounting and reporting
    Maintain investment register of loan and equity investments
  • Prepare donor reports in conjunction with project staff
  • Ensuring the integrity of the balance sheet via regular analysis and reconciliation 
    Preparation of the annual budget and management of the budgeting process
  • Act as primary contact with external advisers and banks
  • Managing audit procedure and preparation of audit pack



  • A recognised professional accounting qualification with several years post-qualification experience
  • Experience and understanding of both private corporate and not-for-profit accounting 
    Excellent communication skills to enable effective working with other finance professionals and local office staff
  • Experience of or empathy for working in developing countries


  • Agriculture accountancy knowledge
  • Systems development experience in a rapidly growing organisation
  • Understanding of the needs of an organisation investing in private sector companies along with international development goals
  • Experience in grant tracking and financial reporting for Donors
