About us

The American Tall Ship Institute (ATSI pronounced AT-SEA) is a 501(c)3 non-profit based in Southern California. Our mission is to encourage positive youth and community development through hands-on, ocean-based programs aboard tall ships and in our boat building shop.

We take students 4th-12th grade aboard our tall ship, the schooner Bill of Rights for educational day sails, overnight retreats, and camps to the Channel Islands. We offer 3-hour to week-long education programs on board the 137 foot wooden tall ship. Our programs are STEM-based (science, technology, engineering, and math) and help youth develop an appreciation for the outdoors while teaching team-building and leadership skills.

We also offer nine week boat building programs that provide job skills, mentorship, and a connection to the environment.
