WHAT WE NEED: We work for an amazing array of exciting and ambitious small businesses and we need someone who really understands the needs and specific requirements of modern startups.  We need you to forget everything you’ve learned from traditional law firms (apart from your legal skills obviously) and embrace a new way of working.   This is a great opportunity to get involved in an exciting project at a very early stage (we haven’t even launched yet) and there’s still plenty to do behind the scenes so you must have a willingness to muck in and take ownership of a variety of interesting projects.  Your principal responsibility will be to take the lead in the provision of our legal services so you will need to hit the ground running.  The role won’t have clearly defined parameters, it will be yours to shape, so we need somebody who enjoys taking responsibility, is extremely trustworthy and well-disciplined and can work independently.  There are thousands of lawyers with the skills and experience we need but that’s not enough, we need lawyers who share our attitude and beliefs.  If this is you and you really are an atypical lawyer then we’d love to hear from you. This might be a big ask but in an ideal world you will have the following experience and skills: Commercial
  • Incorporation and structuring (including shareholders’ agreements, partnership agreements, joint venture agreements etc.).
  • General commercial documents (MSA’s, consultancy agreements, NDAs, requests for change, side letters, licenses etc.).
  • Service contracts and other employment issues.
  • Share acquisitions and disposals.
  • Raising finance (including due diligence).
  IP/IT/Digital Media
  • Digital distribution.
  • Content/technology licensing.
  • Rights and digital content exploitation through internet/mobile or other digital platforms.
  • Online compliance (including privacy and data protection).
  • Advertising.
  • Social Media.
  • IP protection, portfolio management and disputes.
  YOUR QUALIFICATIONS:
  • English qualified with strong academics and training.
  • Current practising certificate.
  • Permitted to live and work in the UK
  ABOUT YOU:
  • Common sense.  Should be a given but you’d be surprised….
  • Enthusiasm/discipline/determination – its going to be an exciting journey but there are bound to be bumps in the road so we need someone who’s in for the long haul and won’t skip off at the first sign of trouble.
  • Attitude and ambition – this is where you need to blow us away guys….
  • It will be good if you can show us that you have a genuine interest in entrepreneurship and innovation.
  • Confidence – you will be expected to help us pull in new business so you will be an accomplished and confident networker and public speaker.
  • Ability to communicate complex legal issues in plain English.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of a variety of projects.  You will also enjoy working in a team environment.  We are small at the moment but we have big plans.
  • Proactive attitude to tasks and responsibilities.
  • Fluent English essential, another language a benefit (or languages, the more the merrier).
    EXPERIENCE:
  • At least two years' PQE.
  • In-house experience is not essential although it would be nice.
  • We don’t expect you to know how to code, but you will need to understand techy lingo.
  • Good understanding of social media would be a big plus.
