Job Specification

AZLera is at a stage in its development where it is looking to diversify its funding base. AZLera wish to undertake more structured, focused and targeted fundraising efforts, with an emphasis on the long term financial self-sustainability of the organisation.

How does AZLera define success in this role?

Ø  Raising sufficient capital to cover AZLera’s operational costs for the next 3 years (amount to be disclosed during interview process);

Ø  Develop a database of relevant donors, interested parties (individuals and organisations) that are approachable and willing to be contacted at least once per quarter.


The Fundraising Lead will focus on the following activities and deliverables:


  1. Fundraising Strategy

a.     Lead on the development of AZLera’s 3-year fundraising strategy

                                          i.    AZLera’s competitive advantage – inspire confidence in donors;

                                         ii.    More focused and prioritised fundraising efforts;

                                        iii.    Help guide strategic decision making;

                                        iv.    Overview of fundraising targets and timeframes;

                                         v.    Form an essential foundation in developing a long term, sustainable fundraising operation.

  1. Fundraising Materials
    1. Improve and redesign existing fundraising materials, including a ‘One-Page’ snap shot of the organisation and professional fundraising presentation.

                                          i.    Crystallise and articulate AZLera’s core values and key messages, ensuring coherence in fundraising approaches and materials.

                                         ii.    Share understanding of the organisation amongst all stakeholders

  1. Grants and Funding Application
    1. Research and explore all suitable channels  / organisations / foundations that are offering grants and funding to organisations that meet AZLera’s profile
    2. With support from the AZLera management team lead on the submission of all appropriate grant and funding applications.
  2. Letters to Private Individuals
    1. Utilise AZLera’s extensive network and reach to explore potential new donors that are willing to invest / sponsor / donate to the organisation.
    2. Share updated fundraising materials and project newsletter with AZLera’s existing mailing-list and present range of fundraising options (monthly / quarterly instalments, student sponsorship, one off lump-sum donation etc.).
  3. Fundraising Events
    1. Support the AZLera management team in the design and management of focused fundraising events, including auctions, guest dinners, sporting events etc.
  4. Other Responsibilities
    1. Miscellaneous items as needed from time to time including supporting broader programme objectives.


The services may be performed via telephone, email or other forms of remote correspondence, and may include meetings with personnel and other consultants at times and locations to be mutually agreed upon.


Duration – 6 months, flexible daily availability.


Start Date – March 2014


Language required – English (competency in Portuguese and Spanish a strong advantage)
