We are a business helping to solve one of the world's greatest challenges; electrifying the 1.4 billion people on this planet who don't have access to electricity.

About BBOXX:

Our existing product range of solar kits is designed to solve the energy needs of a household by not just providing lighting but also by powering a wide range of accessories and entertainment products. The range is considered to be one of the broadest and highest quality offerings in the market.

The engineering team is based in London and our products are manufactured in China. Our main offices are in London, Brussels, Foshan (China) and Kampala (Uganda).

Starting in 2014, we will be selling our products on hire purchase schemes in order to make our products more affordable to a larger customer base. We are currently working to develop a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system to manage all customer interactions. This involves many aspects including registering customers, assessing their credit worthiness and monitoring their payments. In the markets in which we operate assessing customers for credit worthiness is far from simple and so custom software is required to facilitate this. BBOXX will be rolling out this system in a pilot phase from late 2013 but much work is still required to develop these systems.

We are also currently developing an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system to help manage the supply chain of our products. This will allow us to track and plan the movement of stock and products from when they leave the factory until they reach the customer. Due to the lack of infrastructure and efficient supply chains in the markets we work in, careful planning and efficient processes are needed to ensure our products always get to customers when they should. Intelligent and efficient software systems will be key to delivering the level of service that our customers deserve.

The Role:

In this role you will be responsible for designing, developing, testing and maintaining multiple software systems in the company. These software systems are key to the growth of our business as they allow us to have a much better oversight of our operations and optimise in future. The two major software systems that you will be working on are the CRM and ERP systems which are both web-based and used to manage our customers, cash and stock around the world. We are looking to add mobile based apps to extend these systems out to our distributors and sales agents where internet access is not always reliable. You will be working closely with users from China, Africa and London. You will receive and assess requirements from these users and provide optimal solutions to their issues. You will also coordinate work with a teams of developers in Uganda and London.

Main responsibilities will include:

  • Designing and developing an Android App to be used by our sales agents across the world to interact with and manage customers
  • Developing new software modules for our OpenERP based business management systems
  • Improving the scalability of our web based customer management systems used by our distributors
  • Integration of the CRM system and a system currently used to predict and analyse the health of our solar kits whilst in use.
  • Combining the OpenERP and CRM systems to allow us to gain new insights into how customers and products interact
  • Improving the security and reliability of IT systems used throughout the company

The most important skill you will need for this role is flexibility. The requirements of our software systems are not yet fixed and they will evolve over time based on user feedback and your own experience, as well as the rapid growth of the company. The ability to adapt to this change and the willingness to get stuck-in to the development work is key. The following skill will be useful and help you get started more quickly:

  • Experience in web development
  • Python
  • Ruby-on-Rails
  • Experience in writing mobile apps (Android)
  • Database Management/MySQL
  • ERP/CRM development

You will be based in our Engineering office a few minutes walk from Gunnersbury Tube station in Chiswick. The office complex is shared with many other creative companies working across many sectors and has a very friendly and energetic atmosphere. Some occasional travel to China and Africa may be required but the costs of this will be covered by us.
