We are seeking a Development Director who will be responsible leading our strategy for and execution of our corporate growth in Kenya.

About This Position

The Development Director will be responsible for the quality and quantity of work from the entire development pipeline, including but not limited to: 

  • Market Research
  • Real Estate Acquisition
  • Urban and Physical Planning
  • Construction Operations.

The Development Director must ensure that the company meets its financial and operational goals, driving continuous improvement in process and effectiveness, while leading and implementing on the overall strategy of quality growth in the country.

The Development Director is a core member of the executive team in Kenya, reporting to the Country Director and working closely with the Chief Development Officer. Kenya is where the business model for Bridge International Academies has been developed, and where our global expansion will turn to for lessons learned.
The Development Director has most likely worked within development or operations of a very fast growing multi-unit company.
The most important qualities of a successful Development Director are ambition, organization, drive, intellect, problem solving and respect for others. It is critical that the Development Director have previous experience managing large, and diverse teams. Approximately 1/3 of the corporate functions report to the Development Director.

  • Responsible for growth strategy for Kenya; create highly-structured, insightful processes, systems and recommendations with a data-driven approach
  • The Development Director will directly lead and be accountable for the Research Manager, Real Estate Manager, Lead Physical Planner, Construction Operations Manager, and other teams as may become critical for the successful growth of the company
  • To ensure the successful operations of teams directly managed, the Development Director will work closely with all support teams throughout the company, including but not limited to Legal, Finance, Supply Chain.
  • Do or lead every job in the entire Bridge development pipeline, to some extent, to understand entire process and to drive continuous improvement. No job is too big or too small on the path to driving effective operations.
  • Responsible for meeting all growth targets of new launches; contributing to growth targets of operational units, as effected by development strategy and teams

  • At 5-10 years of post-undergraduate, full time work experience
  • Work experience managing an extensive and demanding product of service roll-out or launch
  • Work experience drastically improving the productivity and reducing cost of a product or service
  • Work experience managing and coordinating several teams to deliver on a tight schedule
  • Work experience in emerging markets
  • Record of strong academic performance from a leading undergraduate and, if attended, graduate institution

Ideal Experience 

  • Prior full time work experience in the specified country
  • Work experience, preferably in development or operations, as an employee at any company that has rapidly grown in headcount and number of locations, e.g., large scale retail
  • Work experience in a highly political industry, where ideological conflict is common and strategy, ingenuity, negotiation and persuasion are necessary for success.
