The Cafédirect Producers’ Foundation (CPF) is a young, ambitious charity. We were set up by social enterprise Cafédirect plc and work with 280,000 farmers worldwide to develop innovative solutions to the daily challenges they face. For example, projects like the recently award winning WeFarm.  In our programmes across Africa and Latin America, we aim to be innovative, entrepreneurial and participatory in everything we do. This includes our fundraising.

This newly created role is an opportunity for a dynamic, entrepreneurial individual with a strong background in either non-profit or business to take the lead in delivering our three-year fundraising strategy, with a particular focus on increasing our unrestricted funds through innovative earned income streams.

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Excited and motivated by the challenge of re-shaping charity fundraising, and delivering ambitious six-figure income targets
  • Creative, innovative and full of ideas – can you come up with the next Million Dollar Pixel Homepage or One Red Paperclip?
  • Entrepreneurial, with a can-do approach and willingness to take the initiative and leadership required to make good ideas happen, and ensure they are a success.
  • Experienced, with a proven track record in raising funds and/or generating income through enterprise, and in managing a team.
  • A clear and engaging communicator
  • Passionate about CPF’s model and approach.
  • Willing to try things, fail fast and learn

Key tasks and responsibilities

  • Strategic development and delivery of CPF’s 3-year Fundraising Strategy and Income Targets
  • Lead the implementation and growth of CPF’s 3-year fundraising strategy
  • Develop and manage annual operational plans and budget to deliver this.
  • Proactively identify, engage and monitor new and existing funding opportunities, to develop a consistently high pipeline of activity.
  • Manage CPF’s small, but ambitious fundraising team
  • Report quarterly to CPF’s board of trustees on progress against fundraising targets
  • Leading a process to drive innovation in CPF’s fundraising and revenue generation activities
  • Identify and deliver ways CPF can pursue a different approach to fundraising (particularly fundraising from individuals, major donors and corporates)
  • Developing fundraising initiatives and revenue streams which build on and showcase the strengths of our programmes (e.g. crowdsourcing, micro-enterprise)
  • Explore opportunities to establish earned income revenue streams and/or social enterprise models to generate future funding for CPF
  • Working with creative networks, agencies and partners to continue developing, piloting and testing innovative revenue streams
  • Supporting delivery of wider CPF work plan
  • Participate in team meetings, work planning sessions and brainstorms
  • Supporting the CPF team with administrative tasks as necessary

What we're looking for:

  • Degree-level education
  • Excited and motivated by CPF's model of producer leadership and peer crowdsourcing between smallholders
  • Strategic thinker, with demonstrated success in establishing and growing diverse revenue streams through fundraising and/or enterprise and capacity to achieve six-figure income targets
  • Experience managing teams
  • A passion for the role of enterprise and entrepreneurship in international development
  • Willingness to embrace a challenge, and adapt to unforeseen challenges as they arise
  • Ability to communicate confidently and effectively in person and writing
  • Self-motivated, start-up attitude, dynamic and creative
  • A willingness to do as much photocopying as any other member of the CPF team.
  • Ability to work within a small, decentralised team, with colleagues from diverse backgrounds and locations.

  • A love of coffee that borders on addiction
  • Experience of social enterprise or charity earned income streams or trading
  • Demonstrated success in digital fundraising initiatives
  • Demonstrated success in major donor fundraising in the UK and/or internationally
  • Willingness to work unsociable hours and travel as necessary
