Challenges Worldwide is an international development charity.  We work on behalf of local partners to match skilled volunteers to assignments in developing countries where their skills are urgently required.

We are currently looking for a business consultant to support a cookstove business in Haiti for between 3 and 6 months from early 2014.

Organisation summary

Despite Haiti’s forest cover amounting to just 1.5%, most people cook with inefficient, polluting charcoal stoves as they are the cheapest option.

Our partner organisation is an innovative Haitian business which is working to not only ease the strain on Haiti’s depleted forests, but to create jobs and cut fuel bills on the island through making and selling quick-cooking charcoal stoves.

Although its factory was ruined by the recent earthquake and hurricane, the business has still managed to increase its stove production.

The team in Haiti now require assistance from a consultant who has experience of working with startups as they embark on an exciting period of expansion.

Job description

We are looking for an experienced business consultant who has extensive experience of working with start-ups to join the team in Haiti for between 3 and 6 months.  The role will involve:
• supporting the local team whilst they pilot a new business strategy
• implementing procedures and practices associated with start-ups
• providing assistance on how best to improve the distribution model
• training staff and distributers in sales and marketing techniques

• French language skills are essential for this role
• Substantial experience of working directly with start-ups
• Financial management experience
• A firm understanding of financial reporting and marketing
• Experience in training and mentoring others
• Previous experience of working in the developing world is desired, but not essential

This would be an ideal opportunity for an experienced professional to use their skills in a new and exciting environment, as although unpaid we will cover your expenses.  We provide return flights, insurance, in-country accommodation, transport and inoculations.  You will also receive a daily stipend for meals and subsistence.
