ABOUT

Founded in 2010, CleanStar Mozambique is an integrated food and energy business whose activities include the rollout of an ethanol-based cooking solution to low income households in Maputo as a safe, clean and affordable alternative to charcoal.

The business has three operating divisions:  agroforestry, processing and distribution.  The company’s revenue streams are bulk and packaged food products, bulk animal feed products, ethanol cookstoves, bottled liquid cooking fuel and carbon credits.  The company currently employs ~250 staff and is growing very rapidly.  Investors include CleanStar Ventures, Novozymes, ICM, Bank of America Merrill Lynch and Soros Economic Development Fund.  For more information visit www.cleanstarmozambique.com

About the Role

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the company needs a financial modeling guru with a strong commercial mindset.

The successful candidate will play an integral role in the finance, strategy and planning functions of the business, working directly with the senior management team to drive the analysis upon which the strategy and future direction of the business relies.

This is not a desk-based role buried deep in the finance department.   The candidate will need to spend time across the full breadth of the business – learning the economics of smallholder farmers, the reality of rural logistics, the business of ethanol plants, flour mills and bottling facilities, and the workings of a FMCG sales, marketing and distribution operation.

The role is full-time with a minimum two year commitment.  Significant opportunities for career advancement exist both within the company and the broader CleanStar Ventures group.

Requirements

Tertiary education from strong international university, maths/science/business focus.   At least 5 years experience, preferably within an international investment bank.  Born and raised on Excel.   Must have experienced life in Africa – either work or longer-term travel – and so be able to hit the ground running.  Strong interpersonal and applied empathy skills required – in order to most effectively deal with a very multinational team.  Must possess very strong English writing skills.  Portuguese an advantage.

Immediate start date.
