Were looking for someone to build and co-ordinate one of the most exciting networks on campuses across the country

Entrepreneur First is turning the world of accelerators on its head, changing the way the very best graduates see their career choices and building some of the most exciting startups in the UK.  Our approach is founded on identifying and supporting the very best technical graduates to become founders – talent first, idea second

We’re becoming a top choice among these graduates, but to scale our impact we need to see ten times as many smart students leaving university with an ambition to build products and companies. Your job is to make this happen, by creating a nationwide network of “Maker Clubs” – on-campus organisations dedicated to nurturing and training a generation of entrepreneurial programmers.

If we pull this off, it will have a transformational impact on Entrepreneur First and the wider startup community.

Could you build this programme from scratch?

The aim of your role is to create this ‘maker’ culture on university campuses. As the leader of this initiative, you will have a high degree of autonomy to shape this role and the initiatives as you see fit. You will be at the heart of a national operation with a team reporting into you. Here are some examples of what you will be doing:

  • Create a strategy and operational plan for building and guiding this movementCreate an innovative and new education/inspiration programme to be run on campus for top technical talent
  • Build a national brand for both Maker Clubs and our female coding programme, Code First: Girls
  • Coordinate and build a team of instructors, mentors, speakers and partners
  • Develop marketing materials to engage with the best students on campus
  • Connect these students to the top startup founders in Europe to inspire and prepare them to be founders

This will essentially be building a startup and you’ll have access to EF’s impressive network of founders and startups to help you out. You will be taking the reins, and with the support of the EF team, will create a vision for what this could become. You will be building on the work we have done with Code First: Girls, which has won national press coverage and endorsement from senior members of the Government, and creating from scratch the vision and execution of the Maker Clubs. We want this to be as big and game changing as EF and if we choose you, we know that you’ll have that ambition too.

Skills and experience desired:

  • Pro-active individual with leadership experience
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships
  • Ability to work autonomously in a rapidly changing environment
  • Strong understanding of and passion for technology and early stage companies
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher

  • Experience in a startup, early-stage investment or technology context
  • Experience building partnerships or in a business development role
  • Ability to create software to scale the Maker Club programme

What do you get?

  •  The chance to shape this role and the wider organisation as we grow
  • The opportunity to change the next generation’s career aspirations
  • Access to the EF network of leading startup founders, investors and corporates – ideal for someone with ambitions to found a startup
  • The opportunity to engage with and work alongside our early stage startups
  • Competitive salary based on experience and generous holiday allowance

About Entrepreneur First

Entrepreneur First is the UK’s leading graduate accelerator. We recruit exceptional recent graduates, usually pre-team and pre-idea, purely on the basis of talent. We spend a full year with this group, first helping them to build teams and develop ideas, then accelerating their growth and helping them raise money.

In our first year, we started with 30 individuals who teamed up to build 11 startups worth over £20m. Two were funded by YCombinator, others by some of the top investors in Europe. We are already shifting the career expectations of the very best and are now the second biggest recruiter of Cambridge computer science graduates.
