About Us

Escape the City was born in London where the three of us were working in the heart of the corporate world - 'the City'. Two management consultants and a banker. We realised the conventional path wasn’t for us.

Bored and ambitious - we were looking for something different, but we were struck by how hard it was to make the leap. Where were all the genuinely viable and exciting alternatives? Most of our friends were struggling with the same challenge: "If not this, then what?"

Our Mission

We are on a mission to help talented and ambitious professionals escape unfulfilling corporate jobs. All our lives we're shown a very narrow field of career paths. We're all told to be bankers, accountants, lawyers or consultants, and which big firms we should be aspiring to work for. But never are we asked what's right for us as individuals.

We are solving a big problem, one that matters to nearly every ambitious person who cares what their memoirs will say one day, and what lessons they will pass on to their children. We are giving people visibility of the opportunities, organisations, people and resources that they never knew existed. Life is too short to do work that doesn't matter to you.

Our story so far

We’ve grown our membership to over 90,000 members worldwide and listed opportunities for over 2000 organisations in the past 2 years. We've helped thousands of people find work they actually love, start businesses and go on life changing adventures.

We turned down investment from one of world's top VC firms because we wanted to build an independent business and stick to our ethos of 'do something different'. In only 10 days we crowd-funded £600,000 investment from our wonderful members. We have been interviewed on TV and radio, and featured in The Times, The Telegraph, The Guardian, FT, Wired, Forbes, Fast Company, BusinessWeek, CNN, Bloomberg, the Huffington Post, and many more publications.

Life @ Esc - The Anti-Corporate HQ

Esc HQ is a fun and relaxed place to work. We're a small team with shared ambitions to build something remarkable. We’re a friendly bunch with a range of different backgrounds, an international vibe and an entrepreneurial spirit. We focus on outputs so we’re happy to offer escape employees a flexible working environment, where people often work from home, the beach or up a mountain.

That said, office life tends to be a lot of fun so people often spend their days at HQ. Whether you run, cycle or commute in, there’s always a hot cup of tea waiting for you. Lunch is cooked by one of your team mates and there is plenty of socialising in the evenings.

Opportunities @ Escape

We are building the company we wish we could have worked for. Somewhere that allows its employees to discover what makes them tick, while helping Esc grow at the same time. By giving our team freedom in their work, we push the boundaries of both the technology we're building and the way we operate commercially. We live by our motto 'do something different'.

We're based out of a wonderful open plan office in an old converted Victorian School, just off Battersea Park in London. We're a small team but growing quickly, and we have big plans for the future. If you're interested in working with us, please look out for our opportunities.
