The Escape School is Escape the City’s education arm. We are entering an exciting new phase. We are opening our own venue in Central London this summer. The Escape School will consist of talks, courses, and social events for our members - "the life, career and startup education you didn't get at school".

This internship is your opportunity to be at the heart of our build and launch phase.

You will assist with event production, marketing/storytelling, community management and site logistics. You will work closely with the core Escape School team but you will have significant independent responsibility within our guidance and you will have the chance to lead your own projects.

In return for your hard work we can offer exposure to a startup environment, commercial experience, a modest salary, introductions to relevant exciting employers, a great chance to grow your network and the opportunity to attend all talks, courses, and social events for free. You will leave with a really good understanding of what we are doing and how a young business operates. You will gain first-hand experience of launching a new business unit.

Who Are We Looking For?

We are looking for someone who is willing to help us turn this vision into a reality this summer.

We are looking for someone who can work fast and who doesn't mind rolling up their sleeves to do lots of high-value, low-complexity work. We are looking for someone with the right attitude - energy, initiative, empathy and intelligence. We are looking for someone who can write well and type fast. We are looking for someone who enjoys meeting new people and making strangers feel welcome.

You will need to be fluent in English and legally be allowed to work in the UK. Ideally you would live within 30 minutes of Bank, London. Any further away and you will spend too much of your time travelling. You will need to be able to commit to a 3-month period. Did we mention you need to enjoy rolling up your sleeves and working really hard?

NB: Clarification inserted on time commitment here >>>

Our peak times will be evenings and weekends so we will be asking for a fair amount of time commitment at these times. You will, of course, get time off during the week and you will have a certain amount of flexibility over what your week looks like. It is a grown up role and you'll be responsible for getting your work done on your terms. You can read more about our culture in our Team Manifesto.

We are looking for someone who wants to jump headfirst into this adventure alongside the core team and work just as hard as we do, building something really exciting.

Who Would This Suit?

1. This opportunity would suit someone looking to get experience in a startup environment - specifically someone interested in community management, events, education, careers, entrepreneurialism, personal development, marketing, and business development.

2. The role would suit someone looking to find a full-time job (you will be exposed to 100s of new opportunities and people whilst working with us). If you are job-hunting, our aim is that you would leave us well-placed to get a full-time job in an area that interests you. We will help you do this.

3. This role would also suit someone interested in starting their own business. You will work directly with Rob, one of our co-founders, and you will be exposed to a broad range of issues, opportunities and challenges facing young businesses. If this is you, we want you to leave with a really strong understanding of what it takes to get a business off the ground.

What Will The Role Entail?

  • Event Marketing Assistance – You will help us produce and market events. This includes copywriting for new events, writing event reviews, and administering Eventbrite.

  • Event Production Assistance - You will assist with the production of events. This includes sending pre and post event emails, greeting speakers and members and making sure that everything runs smoothly.

  • Storytelling - You will identify and share compelling Escape member stories and student outcomes. This includes writing blog posts, publishing member articles and even video-interviewing case studies.

  • Marketing - You will build authentic relationships with relevant journalists and likeminded communities to spread the word about The Escape School. You will come up with innovative and cheap ways to generate buzz.

  • Site Logistics - You will help us build and launch our new venue. You will help us manage the venue on an ongoing basis. This will involve everything from site security to lugging chairs around - and we'll all be doing this.

When Will The Position Be Filled?

We are looking for someone to start ASAP. The sooner you can apply and the sooner you can start this month (June 2014), the better. We intend for this to be a rolling internship so if you can't start immediately do still apply and just ask us to keep you on file for later in the year.

NB: We are trialling a new application process for this opportunity. Please follow these instructions.

Simply make sure that your Escape Profile is up-to-date and complete (including the summary field - a general summary about you and your ambitions) and then click the Express Interest button below. We will review all profiles submitted, invite covering emails from a long-list and then meet a shortlist of people who fit the bill.

We're looking forward to hearing from you.

Good luck!

Adele & Matt - The Escape School
Chris & Stefan - Escape the City
