  • We are a bootstrapping media company that has created a strong brand name, a powerful global community and outstanding content.  If you have superb technical skills, are hungry to learn and have a taste for analytical news then give us a shout.
What do we do
  • We focus on analysis instead of news – why is something happening rather than what is happening is the question that we seek to answer. To answer the why, we tap people from around the world with expertise and experience.    Often, they provide better insights than self-appointed pundits. They also bring fresh perspectives, unheard on mainstream media.  In a more global world this diversity of perspectives across borders is essential to achieve a better understanding of the world we live in.
  • We have more than 300 contributors from over 30 countries, more than 20 volunteer editors based from Sao Paolo to Shanghai, and eminent advisers from across the world that include John Bruton, the former Irish Prime Minister, Jianxun Shi, the famous Chinese Professor at Tongji, and Donald Marron, a former member of the US President’s Council of Economic Advisers. This means that we provide cutting edge analysis of relevant issues from people with expertise.
Tech Status quo
  • Right now we are migrating our old Drupal 6 website to Open Publish, which is a packaged distribution based on Drupal 7, designed for the online news industry. It is ideal for the implementation of a variety of media outlet sites including magazines, newspapers and journals. As platform we use the new scalable Microsoft Azure Cloud.
Vision
  • In the future, we want to involve people from around the world at every stage from suggesting topics, submitting content, editing the content, sharing it and commenting on it.  By operating on any device we want to become an interactive platform analyzing data – economic, demographic and geographic - and present it in a visually stimulating manner
What we are looking for and what we offer
  • You are ambitious, irreverent and get your hands dirty
  • You are familiar with Drupal or Open Publish as well as customizing and theming
  • You are keen on developing with HTML 5, PHP, JavaScript and CSS
  • You are used to MySQL or MS SQL databases
  • You are able to map Fair Observer’s processes, content structure and user interface mockups into the
  • content management system Open Publish
  • You are fearless in exploring new technologies and love international teams
  • Ideally you have first experience with programming mobile applications
You will be part of a founding team with a share of equity, gain broad experience in all aspects of the company including fund raising and forge relationships with eminent people with a wide range of backgrounds, former heads of state, intelligence chiefs, generals, professors and business leaders.
