FRANK Water is a small Bristol based team of ethical entrepreneurs, researchers and field workers that funds sustainable clean water projects in developing countries across the world. 

Over the last seven years, we’ve funded clean water for more than a quarter of a million people through 106 clean water projects. We’re a Social Enterprise AND a registered charity, sharing a small office and a kettle with two other organisations. We can still gather our team around the kitchen table.

Over the last five years the Board of Trustees has worked closely with the CEO and staff to develop FRANK's strategy, and are looking for a new Chair to drive this strategy, lead the Board, and develop the charity's external relationships.

Our new Chair will posses the following key qualities:

  • A strong commitment to Frank Water's aims and well-developed understanding of the opportunities and challenges Frank Water faces as an NGO working in the WASH sector, both in the UK and abroad 
  • Leadership skills based on at least three years' experience in a senior management role 
  • Cast iron integrity, strategic vision and excellent, independent judgement 
  • Tactful, diplomatic, extensive communication skills and a balanced approach to discussion; the ability to be even-handed and fair when chairing meetings to deliver the best outcome for Frank Water
  • Confidence to speak their mind and ensure the views of others are heard 
  • Able to manage competing and sometimes conflicting priorities at Board meetings whilst ensuring meetings run to time   In addition to the general responsibilities of a Trustee, the Chair has a number of specific tasks: 
  • Providing leadership for the Board of trustees in their role of setting Frank's strategy and policy
  • Planning the annual cycle of Board meetings and setting agendas
  • Collate feedback from the Board ahead of meetings to ensure the necessary decisions can be made at meetings
  • Chairing and facilitating the Board meetings 
  • Ensuring that decisions taken at Board meetings are implemented and actions are completed  
  • Acting as a spokesperson for the organisation 
  • Working closely with the CEO to develop and monitor an overview of Frank’s affairs and provide support as appropriate   Time considerations: 
  • The Board meets at least four times a year (in London or Bristol), with occasional workshops and meetings as required
  • It is important that the Chair visits the Frank Water office from time to time and is available to the CEO on a regular basis.
  • In addition to Board meetings, regular contact via email and phone is necessary
  • The time commitment for the Chair is approximately 2 days per month 
  • All Trustees should serve a minimum of three year term of office  The role of Trustee is a voluntary position.
