Gap Medics is a young and dynamic British and successful small business that serves a very specific niche market: We provide placements for aspiring medical students aged 16-25 to give them a first-hand insight into the work of hospital doctors in exciting locations around the world.

Maintaining consistently high standards of service alongside this growth is a considerable challenge, and the reason we are seeking exceptional new managers to join our team as we prepare for 2014.

Your role as International Hospital Partnerships Manager 

Our International Hospital Partnerships Managers are the leaders who create, manage and troubleshoot Gap Medics hospital placements around the world. Each Manager is directly responsible for operations in between two and four of our destinations.

You will be responsible for ensuring that every student on a Gap Medics placement has the opportunity to gain a genuinely useful and enjoyable experience of clinical healthcare and receives an outstanding level of customer service consistent with our brand image and promises.

Candidate profile and salary guidelines

More than anything, we are looking for candidates with the personality, confidence and ambition to fit this role. We believe the role may appeal to:

  • Medical or pharmaceutical sales reps, used to building relationships with healthcare professionals;
  • Schoolteachers, with experience of running school trips for 14 - 18 year olds;
  • Professionals with a background in managing operations in the travel or international volunteer industries. 

Key responsibilities

Your primary responsibility is to ensure that each of the programmes in your region:

  1. Is run according to our Operations Manual and is consistent with our brand image and promises;

  2. Receive consistently outstanding customer feedback (above 92% aggregate survey rating);

  3. Operates within its pre-defined budget and is profitable;

  4. Is sustainable for its agreed lifespan;

Specific responsibilities that are central to achieving the above on each of your programmes include: 

For each partner hospital:

  1. Identify, and develop relationships with, key decision-makers and stakeholders as the foundation of a strong and transparent partnership between Gap Medics and the hospital;

  2. Ensure that all key stakeholders fully understand our aims and expectations and view the partnership as fair and mutually beneficial;

  3. Ensure that our formal Partnership Agreement is signed and adhered to;

  4. Meet and personally brief all doctors and other hospital staff who will serve as Gap Medics student mentors, so as to ensure complete understanding at the point of delivery;

  5. Ensure that the amount, method of payment, and distribution of fees paid for placements provides excellent value for money at the point of delivery (i.e. when the student is on placement);

  6. Ensure that electronic records on our CRM are constantly maintained as a complete, accurate and up-to-date representation of placements that are available across different departments and healthcare disciplines.

Recruit, train and manage local staff teams, most importantly Programme Managers. Global travel and lifestyle implications.

Global travel and lifestyle implications   

Although our Head Office is in Newcastle upon Tyne in England, this is a substantially field-based position. Around 70% of your working time will be spent on the ground in our programme locations, with trips lasting from a few days to several weeks at a time.
