ABOUT

Do you want to learn entrepreneurship? Do you want to understand what makes technology companies tick? Do you want to meet lots of influential and interesting founders and tech investors? Then come work with us for a crash course in tech entrepreneurship. But beware: you might never want to leave!

Us:

Founded by Daniel Tenner and Paulina Sygulska, GrantTree is a rapidly growing company whose mission is to help UK technology companies to get funding without giving up equity, primarily via R&D Tax Credits and Grants. How rapidly growing? After a very profitable first year and a second year that was 4 times more so, we are on track to turn over more than £1m in the third year. If you want to help us make this happen, read on.

The position:

We are looking for two enthusiastic, determined, driven new team members to help us with managing the numerous pieces of client work going on (some of the UK’s most innovative startups and tech companies),  and building strong relationships with them to make sure that all these great companies we work with are served well. The work involves chasing, keeping track of where things stand with multiple clients, being diligent about little details, communicating promptly via either phone or email, driving the data gathering processes, and generally staying on top of many things going on at the same time.

This is only the base set of responsibilities. We are still a small company, so there are plenty of other things to do (and everyone does a bit of everything). In addition to your “day job” (in this case, client manager), you will be expected to do other, related “project-based” work, for which you will be rewarded with regular, quarterly pay raises.

You:

This is not a job for everybody. You must be flexible, pragmatic, have tons of energy and enthusiasm, love talking to people, have a head for numbers, with excellent written and spoken communication skills. You need to have a dedicated approach to following up over a long period of time, and be willing to go above and beyond to help our clients. Startups are a small world and having the right attitude is crucial to help us build and maintain our great reputation.

GrantTree’s client management process is well defined, and you must be willing to follow that process as much as possible, whilst still being able to make allowances for specific client requests. Your ultimate goal will be to make clients delighted to work with us. You need to be the kind of person who cares and wants to be passionate about this, and do whatever it takes to keep our clients happy. Please note that this doesn’t mean that we’ll work you to the bone. On the contrary, we believe in working healthy and productive hours. The best work is done by people who are happy, healthy and well-rested, and we want the best work.

In terms of experience, we will prefer people with some client relationship or account management experience for this position, though it’s not a deal breaker if you haven’t.  As mentioned, you must be good at working with numbers because all our products are related to helping UK companies get funding, so if you’re afraid of simple maths this isn’t the right role for you. An interest in technology and computer software would be a plus, though don’t be put off from applying if you don’t have an engineering or programming background! This is one of the few roles where you can gain a deep insight into the technology industry without being required to have a tech background.

Nevertheless, only apply if you feel you can make a case for why you’ve got the requisite skills for this role.
