Role Purpose

The Development Manager is an experienced and highly professional individual who will secure income from a range of funders including Corporate, Grant-Making Trusts and Individuals. The Development Manager will be an energetic team player, able to manage a busy and varied workload and work to specific financial and non-financial targets. 

Key responsibilities

1              To manage a portfolio of funding partnerships drawn from business, grant-making trusts, individuals and government, to achieve significant income for Impetus - The Private Equity Foundation Trust, maximising income across all available income streams.

2.            To account manage a portfolio of donors, liaising with appropriate Impetus - The Private Equity Foundation staff to maximise the success of these partnerships.

3              To develop effective strategies for finding new targets, cultivating, soliciting donations and stewarding and renewing these donors to maximise long-term funding potential. 

4              To establish and build effective relationships with a range of contacts in donor organisations, ensuring excellent stewardship, donor satisfaction and keeping them informed about developments at Impetus - The Private Equity Foundation Trust.

5              To understand donor needs and deliver donor engagement plans, ensuring delivery of the Impetus – Private Equity Foundation ‘value proposition’ to donors.

6              To agree financial and engagement targets for each funding partnership and to strive to attain these targets and future commitments.

7              To work in collaboration with appropriate Impetus - The Private Equity Foundation staff at all levels to ensure partnerships are delivered effectively. This might include the rest of the Development Team, Communications, Portfolio, Pro Bono , Finance and senior volunteers.

8              To write high quality reports, presentations and proposals, understanding the needs and knowledge of the target audience, both external funders and internal stakeholders. 

8              To work with Impetus - The Private Equity Foundation colleagues on new proposals and ideas to maximise our chances of development success.

9              Maintain the quality of information concerning donors and prospects on the Salesforce database in a timely fashion.

10           Represent the Development team on internal projects, working groups and committees as required

Person specification (E = essential, D = Desirable)

  • Graduate or equivalent qualification (E)
  • Experience of corporate fundraising and/or major donor fundraising or sales/marketing/sponsorship, including a good understanding of the corporate donor marketplace (E)
  • Experience of raising funds from grant-making trusts (D)
  • Excellent relationship management and communication skills, with the ability to relate to people at all levels in a range of business functions
  • An organised, strong project manager with the ability to devise donor engagement plans and use project/account plans, budgets, and other financial information
  • Excellent oral and written skills, with experience of presenting to external audiences
  • Strong influencing skills, with the ability to influence funder expectations to maximise the value from relationships
  • Analytical skills with the ability to identify key points from complex materials or information
  • Excellent reporting skills, able to produce high quality written and numeric material for both external funders and internal audiences, as required
  • Highly proficient with Word, PowerPoint, Excel and databases
  • Professional interpersonal and communication skills to a wide range of people at all levels of situations on the phone, face to face and in writing, for engagement with volunteers, staff and external contacts
  • Able to prioritise a varied and fast paced workload
  • An understanding of fundraising from companies, high net worth individuals, Trusts and/or government bodies.

  • Ability to prioritise and manage own workload and deliver to agreed targets
