Overview of the role

The Development Officer is a highly professional individual who will support the Development team in securing income from a range of funders including Corporates, Grant-Making Trusts and Individuals. The Development Officer will be an energetic team player, able to manage a busy and varied workload and work with all members of the organisation to ensure an efficient and productive Development function.

This is a maternity cover for a period of 6 months.

Key responsibilities

1              Development Support: provide comprehensive support to the Development team, including drafting briefings, preparing letters, emails, presentations and proposals, to a wide range of donors and prospects.

2              Provide support for donor and prospect meetings in the form of diary management, meeting brief preparation and background research as required. Provide written and face-to-face briefings.

3              Data Management: Manage and maintain the existing Development database. Project manage a move to a new CRM database that meets the needs of the organisation.

4              Maintain a system that ensure all donor correspondence, research, relationship information and donor engagement plans is easily retrievable

5              Management of Financial Data: maintain the accurate financial records of donors and provide regular reports on financials and activity as required for Development and Finance teams. This includes detail on any donation restrictions.

6              Own the Development pipeline and associated documents to ensure it is always accurate, up to date and provides a good source of prospective donors.

7              Assist the Development team with donor engagement plans from conception to implementation.

8              Attend meetings with donors and other external events as an ambassador for Impetus – the Private Equity Foundation

9              Ensure all Development materials including presentations and reports are up to date. Liaise with the Communications team to do this.

10           Design, produce and finesse presentations and proposals for existing and prospective funders, including pitch documents and donor engagement plans.

11           Carry out donor research into the corporate, grant-making trust, individual  and government areas with recommendations for potential approach

12           Create and maintain donor profiles on the database

13           Provide donor reporting documents with other members of the Development Team to provide high quality, tailored reporting for each donor

13           Respond to and coordinate adhoc enquiries from donors, prospective donors and other parties with the support of other teams as required

14           Support the Development and Fundraising Committees for Impetus the Private Equity Foundation, including arranging meetings, compiling papers, taking and distributing minutes

15           Arrange fundraising and stewardship meetings for specific donor groups as directed by the Development team

16           Organise, write and edit donor communications as required, including the monthly donor email update

17           Support the Development Managers and Development Directors on funding applications, proposals and pitches. Attend meetings in person as required

18           Represent the Development team on internal projects and committees as required.

Person specification

  • Graduate or equivalent qualification
  • Excellent organisation and administration skills with the ability to plan and prioritise work for self and others
  • Excellent oral and written skills
  • Analytical skills with the ability to identify key points from complex material or information and to provide recommendations based on this information
  • Experience of preparing research reports, briefing papers or discussion documents
  •  Highly proficient in PowerPoint, Excel, Word and databases, specifically Salesforce (we also use Filemaker Pro). This is essential.
  • Professional interpersonal and communication skills to a wide range of people at all levels of situations on the phone, face to face and in writing, for engagement with volunteers, staff and external contact
  • Able to prioritise a varied and fast paced workload
  • Proactive and solution driven in approach
  • An understanding of fundraising from companies, grant making trusts, high net worth individuals and/or government bodies.
  • Ability to deal with people at all levels
  • Able to work on own initiative and with minimum supervision
  • Self-motivated, flexible and able to make judgement as to when to take the initiative
  • Ability to prioritise and manage own workload and deliver to agreed targets
