IEFT is a 501(c)3 nonprofit community-collaborative organization that provides quality, affordable secondary education to under-served indigenous children in rural Tanzania. IEFT empowers children to positively transform their own lives, and improve their communities.

Currently, only 11% of rural Tanzanian children are enrolled in secondary school. IEFT attempts to change this reality by developing and operating the Orkeeswa Secondary School in the remote village of Lashaine. The school is located in a predominantly Maasai community and allows for the preservation of the indigenous traditions and beliefs, while providing affordable, accessible educational opportunities. Through the development of Orkeeswa Secondary School in Lashaine Village, IEFT provides a secondary education to children who may not have the opportunity to continue their education past primary school. The opportunity to receive an education and use this knowledge to further their communities is the key to escaping poverty for students, their families and their communities.

There is no program fee to volunteer with IEFT, however candidates are required to cover their own expenses to get to Tanzania and while living in Tanzania, including round-trip airfare, the required Visa fees ($850 USD) and regular living expenses (food, travel, etc.). Volunteers that commit to at least one year are eligible for our stipend program; please inquire for more details. All volunteers are provided with shared housing.
