Kiva is a non-profit organization with a mission to connect people through lending to alleviate poverty. Leveraging the internet and a worldwide network of microfinance institutions, Kiva lets individuals lend as little as $25 to entrepreneurs around the globe.
Kiva (www.kiva.org) is a mission-driven technology company. We run a global marketplace platform for crowd-funded micro-loans to serve the financially excluded. Kiva combines the culture and approach of an internet start-up with a mission to alleviate poverty. We aim to drive social impact and enable opportunity while providing a borrower-to-lender connection: “Loans that change lives.”
In just 10 years, Kiva has raised $850 million in loan capital for nearly 2 million borrowers in over 85 countries. Kiva’s lenders fund over $10 million in loans every month. Kiva is poised to take its initial success to a whole new level - targeting $1 billion in loans by 2017 and continuing our expansion into new areas (e.g. student loans, water, mobile, etc.). Headquartered in San Francisco with offices in New York, Nairobi, Istanbul and Bangkok, Kiva's team has 100+ employees and 500+ volunteers worldwide.
What we do
At Kiva, we envision a world where all people - even in the most remote areas of the globe - hold the power to create opportunity for themselves and others. We believe providing safe, affordable access to capital to those in need helps people create better lives for themselves and their families.
Making a loan on Kiva is so simple that you may not realize how much work goes on behind the scenes. Kiva works with over 250 microfinance institutions, social enterprises, nonprofit organizations and small & growing businesses on five continents to provide loans to people without access to traditional banking systems. One hundred percent of the loans posted to the Kiva website is sent to these organizations, which we call Field Partners, who then administer the loans in the field to the borrowers. Kiva relies on a worldwide network of over 350 volunteers who work with our Field Partners, edit and translate borrower stories and ensure the smooth operation of countless other Kiva programs.
What is our culture like?
Kiva has headquarters in San Francisco, CA. We also have Kiva Fellows working directly with our microfinance institution (MFI) partners in the field in over 60 countries around the world, as well as a team of internationally-based staff members, hundreds of volunteers helping us in office and online, and an ever growing community of lenders and borrowers using the Kiva platform. From near or far, Kiva is a family of people dedicated to helping the world, in big and small ways.
We love what we do and sometimes that includes having fun with the whole Kiva team. From company-wide recess, to the hammock room; from our many office dogs, to our all-access library, we like spending time together.

Kiva Fellows Program
Since 2007, the Kiva Fellows Program has offered over 500 individuals a rare opportunity to put their skills to work in support of global microfinance. Selected Fellows immediately become part of the Kiva family, reporting back while in the field and often working more closely with Kiva's borrowers than the staff ever will. After finishing their placements, Fellows join an active network of 700+ Kiva Fellow alumni. Through the Kiva Fellows Program Alumni network, former Fellows stay involved with Kiva through many networking opportunities and events in cities around the world.
