About us

Latin American Foundation for the Future (LAFF) works with partner organisations in Peru to help disadvantaged children build a better future for themselves. To do this LAFF enable marginalised young people to access education opportunities and vocational training, as well as support children’s homes through income-generation, cost reduction initiatives and capacity building for staff.

Why are we exciting?

When you take on a paid or volunteer position with LAFF, you know that you are contributing towards the education and sustainable future of some incredibly inspiring marginalised young people in Peru.

Whether you are helping organise vocational training, communicating our successes through case studies, building up a social enterprise to make sure our children's homes are sustainable in the long-term, your work is of real value and you will be given a proper role.

Not to mention the fact that our work takes place in and around the beautiful UNESCO heritage site of Cusco, Peru - the starting point for visitors to Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley. And with a small team of skilled, motivated and inspirational volunteers to work with, you will have a truly unforgettable time making a difference.

What is our culture like?

We believe in independence, not dependence - the guiding philosophy behind our support for the education of marginalised children, as well as the sustainability of the organisations who support them.

We believe that a small group of committed individuals can make a huge difference in the lives of others. This is what we do, and this is how we do it:

We believe that a child needs more than food, shelter and safety – they need the opportunity to develop their self-confidence and skill sets.  LAFF supports children into adulthood by giving them a good education, life skills, employment skills and, most importantly, a sense of self-worth. This enables young people to not only get the most out of their own lives but also contribute to the world around them.

We believe that issues facing marginalised children, both on the streets and in care, are varied, complex, and best understood by those who are closest to them. This is why we work through and support partners who understand those needs and can provide the help required.

We help our partner organisations by ensuring their self-sustainability. Our aim is to enable projects to be independent of outside help, by becoming more financially stable and therefore independent of external funding. This allows staff to overcome constant worries about financial support and instead concentrate on more important concerns such as the welfare and future of the children in their care.

What can we offer Escapees?

We offer Escapees the opportunity to improve Spanish language skills and gain hands-on experience in the field in the International Development sector.

A volunteer role with LAFF means your skills will be put to good use and you will have the opportunity to work directly with beneficiaries, gain valuable field experience and increased awareness of International Development issues, whilst practising and improving your Spanish language fluency working in a Latin American context. After being supported into your new role through our pre-departure and in-country training, you will work in Peru as a valued member of our small team of enthusiastic and skilled professionals from around the globe, under the guidance and supervision of our International Partnerships Manager. What better way to gain valuable work experience in the field than taking on a challenging and CV-boosting professional role?
