LGT Venture Philanthropy (www.lgtvp.com) seeks 2-3 experienced investment managers to strengthen its Europe team with a local presence in the UK. An ideal candidate would be an extraordinary venture capitalist with deal execution experience or potentially a seasoned business management consultant. The position allows the candidate to apply her/his skills in making a real difference by investing in and building companies that deliver critical goods and services in sectors such as energy, water, resource management, nutrition, education/empowerment, infrastructure or health towards achieving our mission of improving the sustainable quality of life of the less advantaged. Hence, an in-depth understanding of issues and challenges related to development and poverty would be a significant advantage.

Key responsibilities:  
  • Work as Investment Manager as part of the LGT VP Europe team located in the UK (London), interact with a variety of stake-holders and take lead in identifying and developing new investment opportunities in thematic areas of our interest that are a fit with our values and approach
  • Lead investment opportunities through various stages of the process, including initial screening, presentation to the Impact Ventures UK Investment Committee, detailed business and financial due-diligence, legal structuring, execution and closure
  • Prepare, present and maintain detailed investment documentation for our Europe and global teams, as well as for Partners and the Board
  • Constantly strive to increase the positive impact of our portfolio organisations by working with them in an intensive manner and add value in critical areas of strategy, operations, business development, organisational building and governance
  • Proactively develop and manage relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders including potential investees, sector experts, consultants, policymakers, investors, advisors and thought leaders
  • Coordinate actively with the Europe team, other regional teams and advisory team in order to understand and track key metrics to monitor the progress being made by portfolio organisations based on social, environmental and financial returns
  • Support Europe as well as regional teams on specific tasks related to deal screening, due-diligence and execution as and when required
  • Proactively contribute towards building broader sector knowledge and expertise for our investments in other regions around the world

Ideal candidate would bring:
  • 3-7 years of overall experience, including at least 3 years of investment experience with financial and operational due-diligence (must have PE/VC deal execution experience preferably in the UK) and potentially has 2 or more years of business consulting/operations experience in early stage companies in the UK
  • Intuitive understanding of early stage business models and different entrepreneurial styles and an innate ability to strike strong working relationships with entrepreneurs and a variety of stakeholders that form their eco-system, such as banks or finance organisations, sector experts or policymakers
  • Proven track record of providing support to businesses at multiple levels including operations, strategy and governance, through working with a variety of portfolio companies or through working directly in a key role within an organisation; sector knowledge in specific thematic areas will be an advantage
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, with an ability to work well within a team, effectively interact with potential partners from business and non-profit backgrounds as well as with a variety of people on the field
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; with an ability to formulate and present analysis and arguments in a clear, crisp and concise manner to other team members, Partners, the Board as well as to the portfolio organisations
  • Must have deep practical understanding of doing business in the UK, coupled with a strong (local) network in business, non-profit, policy and finance circles
  • Fluency in English, knowledge of other European languages is advantageous
  • Humility and commitment to producing highest quality of work, with attention to detail and follow-through
