To support our vision of dramatically improving the lives of the poor, Living Goods is seeking a Direct Sales Director for our successful operations in East Africa. The position will be based in Kampala, or possibly Nairobi.

The Direct Sales Director will provide leadership across the organization on direct sales strategy and tactics. The Director may also manage Living Goods’ established direct sales operations in Uganda and oversee our exciting, large-scale plans for expansion.

The ideal candidate will have an exceptional track record in direct sales or multi-level marketing in developing countries, ideally within East Africa.

Responsibilities

  • Maximize Sales and Financial Sustainability
  • Maximize Social Impact
  • Provide Leadership on direct sales strategy and tactics across the organization.
  • Develop specific strategies across Living Goods for agent recruitment and retention, incentives, reward and recognition schemes, marketing, training, branch location, product mix and pricing.
  • Expand and Manage a National Network of Branch Outlets in Uganda: Living Goods has an established branch network in Uganda. We plan to expand significantly across the country.
  • Build and Support National Sales Force:  Manage and recruit thousands of direct sales agents.
  • Build and Support Field Team: Mentor, motivate, recruit and train new and existing Branch and Regional Managers and ensure they are supported to achieve success.
  • Contribute to Strategy as a Key Member of the Core Management Team.
  • Innovation: Generate and deploy innovative tests and promotions that have the opportunity to significantly improve profitability and human impacts.
  • Develop Agent and Consumer Financing Models
  • Develop Distribution and Delivery Models
  • Maximize Mobile Tools: Optimize the use of the mobile communications platform to drive sales, deepen impacts, reduce costs, and increase profitability.
  • Travel: This position is based in Kampala, or possibly Nairobi, with up to 30% travel time between the two.

Qualifications

  • Must possess a Bachelor’s degree.
  • At least 10 years of exceptional experience and success in Direct Sales or Multi-Level Marketing senior management in developing countries, ideally in East Africa.
  • Extensive experience and knowledge of various Direct Sales or Multi-Level Marketing models.
  • Proven record in executing marketing strategies to increase sales volumes.
  • Experience of driving geographically scaled, multi-unit operations. Ideally you have launched dozens of new units/ outlets.
  • Experience recruiting, managing and motivating large teams.
  • Experience in optimizing distribution systems.
  • Willingness to travel within East Africa.
