About this role

This is an exciting opportunity for a recent graduate with experience or someone is who is keen to work at one of the country’s most successful social enterprises and winner of a prestigious National Business Award for transformation from a traditional charity to successful thriving social enterprise.

The London Early Years Foundation (LEYF) provides early years education and parenting support to 3,000 families each year via 26 nurseries in seven London boroughs. LEYF believes that early years education is a catalyst for long-term change, and not simply a business in itself. Early childhood intervention is one of the most effective ways of improving a child’s future life chances, particularly for children from disadvantaged backgrounds, so LEYF uses a social business model to support 46% of their families to access a free place, ensuring that children from all backgrounds have the same access to high quality early years education.

LEYF is a bold and entrepreneurial organisation aiming to double in size in the next three years and reach 5000 children. To help secure its ambitions, LEYF is looking to recruit a Marketing and Communications Executive to join the team. The post-holder will need to deliver great performance and consistency across a variety of marketing and communications activities including digital content management, project work and coordinating amazing events.

Reporting directly to the Head of Marketing and Communications and working across the organisation this role a key in championing LEYF’s brand and values, enabling increased reach and enhanced customer service to thousands of families across London.

The Head Office Team at LEYF is an ambitious and fun group of people, many of whom have recently left the private sector to further LEYF’s award-winning social enterprise model. For this position, experience of charitable or social enterprise organisations is not required, but a passion for the work of LEYF, flexibility, and a drive for results are essential.


Job Purpose:

To ensure occupancy targets are met and the LEYF brand is strengthened by: coordinating LEYF’s digital marketing activities (social media, SEO, PPC, website maintenance, online listings); coordinating and delivering special events (eg family fun days); and, supporting the Marketing Manager to deliver all tactics in local and LEYF-wide marketing plans.

 Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the LEYF website is effectively managed ensuring a smooth user experience, including being a key part of website redevelopment project, on-going updates and improvements, and SEO.

  • Manage LEYF’s social media profiles, including Twitter, Facebook, Flickr and YouTube through regular content updates to reach our key audiences.

  • Oversee LEYF’s PPC campaign, monitoring trends and optimising content as required.

  • Maintain and update online profiles and listings for each nursery.

  • Coordinate and support the nursery teams to deliver LEYF’s family fun day events three times per year to attract new parents and retain existing parents.

  • Work closely with the Marketing Manager in the development of localised marketing plans for nurseries, and take responsibility for ensuring all tactics in the plans are delivered on schedule.

Details of specific tasks and duties associated with these accountabilities will be agreed with the Head of Marketing and Communications as part of the performance management process. Any reasonable duties may be assigned, consistent with the nature of the role and its level of responsibility.

Problem solving/complexity/decision making

The complexity of the role arises from the need to balance competing tasks and priorities, making sure all tasks are planned and managed in an effective way so the most important work (linked to the marketing strategy) is completed on time.

The job holder will be responsible for implementing marketing plans across a range of nurseries, which will require them to take into account the differences in local demographics and mix of children and parents.

The jobholder must be able to build trusting relationships with nursery teams, where marketing can sometimes be seen as an imposition.

As with many marketing roles this is not a ‘9-5’ role and the jobholder must be prepared to work after hours and travel occasionally.

Skills and Experience

The jobholder should have a theoretical understanding of marketing (in particular digital marketing) and at preferably at least one year of hands on experience.

  • Social media management including Twitter, Facebook, Flickr and YouTube
  • A working knowledge of PPC & SEO

  • Experience using a website CMS or willing to learn fast

  • Exceptional relationship development and management skills

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills

  • Strong attention to detail

  • IT skills – excel, word, PowerPoint, CMS, design tools eg InDesign (optional but highly regarded)

  • Experience preparing design and copy for marketing materials such as posters or ads

  • Able to work in close partnership with team members, and well as completely independently

  • Analytical skills and data analysis

  • Persuasive and able to influence and achieve stakeholder buy-in

 Qualifications

  • Degree level and or CIM qualifications essential
