What is the vision of the program?
Mashariki is a pilot program that provides select hotel owners and hotel management companies with international talent and workforce, enabling international experiences for discerning hotel guests and tourists.
Applicants benefit from living and working in beautiful, natural environment deep in the wilderness of East Africa (Kenya, Tanzania, Zanzibar, Uganda and Rwanda), and soon in the South of Africa!
In addition, selected applicants gain valuable exposure from working with visitors from all over the world in a unique and foreign environment.
Mashariki also aims to increase awareness about the region as a popular safari and holiday destination.
What type of vacancies and roles are available?
Mashariki placements are especially within hospitality. Depending on the country you are applying and are selected for, your professional and educational qualification, placements are in virtually all division within the hospitality industry. This varies from sales and marketing, guest relations, tour management, assistant management, food production or engineering.
What happens after I submit my application?
We will review your application and forward it directly to hotels, resorts and lodges' employers. Once there's a suitable match, you will be contacted directly and advised about the next steps.
How long does it take to receive a reply?
A committee of different employers will review your application. You can expect to receive a reply within 2-4 weeks if you are selected. If you do not receive a reply during this time, we will place your application in a talent pool where new employers and new destination hotels will have the opportunity to review your qualification and motivation.
When can I start?
There are no starting dates. While you can specify your availability and preferred starting date, vacancies are subject to availability. It is therefore difficult for employers to guarantee an offer 3-6 months in advance.
Can you guarantee a placement?
An application to our program is akin to a job application through an employment agency. We are connection service and do not guarantee a placement, however, we will do our best to ensure qualified candidates receive equal opportunity, fair selection, and that you are safely and successfully placed by the employer of your choice.
How do I obtain a visa?
You will receive travel and other step-by-step instructions directly from employers with suggestions based on their jurisdiction. You may also be required to send a passport copy prior to an offer being made as a result of local labor regulation and work permit issuance.
How will I obtain a work permit?
This is an advanced stage of the placement process and can only take place after your arrival on a normal tourist visa. Your employers are responsible to ensure you are lawfully employed and entitled to work in the respective jurisdiction (Country - E.g. Rwanda, Kenya or Tanzania).
What is the cost of the program?
The placement includes in virtually all instances a return airline ticket, accommodation, service meals, and a stipend ranging from a minimum of $500 per month to $800 per month. There are instances where this may be negotiable for full time job placements. Insurance and tourist visa costs are borne by the applicants.
Is Africa safe?
We encourage you to do your own research about the country you will be visiting. However, Africa is generally a safe place to travel, live and work.
