Food scientist needed to dream up flavours in Tanzania.  We are a start-up social enterprise at the front line of the nascent flavours industry in this beautiful country.  We specialise in vanilla and our work across the value chain delivers significant social impact to smallholder farmers and brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the food industry, bolstering the local economy in many ways.

We are looking for a volunteer who is passionate about natural flavours and keen to do good at the same time.  The candidate would be a Master’s degree student, recent graduate or ideally an experienced scientist looking for a short break from the norm.  Your work would initially be based in your home town where you will have far better access to laboratory equipment, and after 1-2 months of research and development you would implement your findings during a 2-week trip to our factory, located on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania.

The objectives of your work would be to refine our natural vanilla flavour and solvent extraction process to compete with artificial imports and to develop at least one other natural flavour from a locally grown crop, such as orange, coffee, cocoa or mango.  In the process, you would train a scientist or two at local organizations we are partnering with, to ensure the sustainability of your work.
