Each year the New Entrepreneurs Foundation selects up to 30 young, aspiring entrepreneurs and provides them with a unique, 12-month programme consisting of five main components: a paid work placement in an entrepreneurial company; an intensive learning and development programme; networking events; a business mentor and an executive coach.

How we do this...

Our unique 12-month programme consists of five main components:

1. A paid work placement:

Our cohort members (or, ‘NEFers’, as they have become known) do a 12-month, paid work placement in an exciting, innovative, high-growth company. They work alongside a founder and/or their senior management team, experiencing at close-hand how to run a successful business. Our host companies range across many different industries and include start-ups as well as more established brands.

Our NEFers have the opportunity to get their hands dirty and make tangible contributions to the growth of the company while developing their skills. Depending on the needs of the host company, they may work as project managers, researchers, sales/marketing managers, product developers, or EA to the founder/Board.

Our host companies range from innovative start-ups such as made.com, Seatwave, FitFlop to established brands such as Travelex, Intuit, TalkTalk etc.

2. Fast-Track Programme:

An intensive, immersive and interactive 10-month fast-track programme with an array of workshops and resources to support the candidates in learning new skills and advancing their entrepreneurial ambitions.

The challenges facing the entrepreneurs of today are growing and ever-changing. We are equipping our entrepreneurs with the right skill-set to be prepared for the challenges they will face on their entrepreneurial journeys.

We drive strategic learning and development through robust and rigorous workshops led by business schools, specialist providers and experienced business leaders.

The workshops and bespoke seminars are provided by our corporate sponsors such as McKinsey, SJ Berwin, St James’s Place and Tesco; business schools such as London Business School, UCL and the Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning at Cambridge Judge Business School; and other specialist learning providers.

3. Monthly speaker & networking events:

Several times throughout the year, we invite established business leaders and inspirational entrepreneurs to share their experiences with our cohort. Our speakers include big names such as Dido Harding (CEO, Talk Talk), Gerry Murphy, (Chairman, Blackstone), Dr. Hermann Hauser CBE (co-founder, Amadeus Capital Partners), Lara Morgan (co-founder, Startup Britian), Brett Acker (founder, Streetcar), Marcia Kilgore (founder, Bliss, FitFlop & the Soap & Glory range), Sir Nigel Rudd (Chairman, Invensys & Chairman, Business Growth Fund, NEF co-founder), to name a few.

NEFers count the NEF network as one of the most valuable aspects of the programme.

4. Mentoring:

A number of experienced, successful entrepreneurs and business people including senior staff from our sponsor companies work with us as mentors for the NEFers. Experts in their respective fields, mentors provide honest advice and actionable feedback to our Entrepreneurs for their venture ideas. Mentors become a perfect sounding board to test the venture ideas and business strategies.

5. Executive Coaching:

We carefully select a panel of executive coaches who work with CEOs and senior business managers.

NEFers are assigned a personal coach who supports their learning and challenges their thinking throughout the programme. Their personal coach becomes a trusted guide, a confidante and an extra support system for the budding entrepreneurs to help them through challenging times.
