ABOUT

At No.1 Traveller, our business is all about creating exceptional pre-flight experiences. We started small, but as a fast-paced, entrepreneurial travel company we now operate a collection of award-winning airport lounges at Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Birmingham, run in-airport Travel Spas and offer a chauffeur-drive service to and from the airport. We’ve got big plans for 2013 and beyond so it’s a really exciting time to join us.

Due to the expansion of our Communications team, we’re now looking for an outstanding Communications Manager to manage our PR activity in-house. This is a role that’s both proactive and reactive. You’ll need to be comfortable rolling up your sleeves to manage the day-to-day press office function - acting as the main point of contact for media relations across travel trade, consumer and national publications, managing the responses to opportunities for press coverage and spokesperson opportunities, and following up on all requests quickly and efficiently.

Alongside that, you’ll proactively develop and deliver press releases, pitch news stories and manage PR campaigns to build No.1 Traveller’s profile. You could also be organising media briefings, sorting the logistics for a lounge press trip, building relationships with key influencers such as journalists and bloggers or seeking out speaker opportunities, competitions or partnership opportunities. There’ll certainly never be a dull moment.

Who are we after? You’re probably a graduate, with at least 3-5 years’ experience working in a PR environment – ideally at an agency or with a mix of agency/in-house with experience of travel, leisure and luxury clients. You’ll be a self-starter, comfortable with managing a variety of activities from the ‘hands on’ (picking up the phone to pitch a story, for example) to strategic thinking and project management. You’d describe yourself as determined, super-organised and creative, and the idea of working in an entrepreneurial environment - often a very fast pace with constantly changing deadlines and pressures - doesn’t faze you in the slightest.

We’ll be looking for extensive contacts in travel and luxury media, along with a portfolio demonstrating your success (press releases and news/feature clippings) coupled with excellent writing skills and a ruthless eye for detail. You’ll have the initiative to work on your own (as well as in a team) and drive activity forwards, the gravitas to influence both internal and external stakeholders and the confidence to pitch to the press. A solid understanding of the key issues affecting the travel and holiday industry and experience in social media would be the icing on the cake.
