An exciting opportunity to contribute to education and youth empowerment projects in Cambodia. Come join the PEPY family! We're seeking an experienced educator to support the PEPY NGO, and build capacity of our Khmer team.

PEPY, a US-registered non-profit running educational and youth empowerment projects in rural Siem Reap province. PEPY’s vision is all young Cambodians empowered to achieve their dreams.

To achieve this vision, PEPY invests time and resources in young people connecting them with the skills, systems, and inspiration necessary to achieve their goals, raise standards of living, and improve the quality of education in their communities.

This role is based in the PEPY office in Siem Reap town, with occasional travel to program sites, and reports to the Senior Program Manager.

The Capacity Builder will work as part of the NGO's Program team, which supports PEPY's education and youth empowerment programs.

Roles and Responsibilities

General tasks and responsibilities will be focused within the realm of capacity building, English language support, curriculum development and will include, but will not be limited to the following:


  • Support our English program staff to ensure the smooth running of English classes in both the Learning Center (for university students) in Siem Reap and within the rural Junior High School we work with.
  • Provide guidance to program staff, and support the development of English curriculum for our Learning Center for 2014 and 2015 classes.  
  • Build the capacity of PEPY English teachers through ‘teacher trainer’ sessions to improve their teaching style and English language proficiency.
  • Support with the delivery of English classes for university students, alongside our Project Officer.
  • Observe current English classes; make recommendations for improvement, and support staff to implement those improvements.
  • Help English Project Officer implement effective monitoring and evaluation systems to measure the impact of English classes and students’ ability.
  • Provide English classes to PEPY Khmer team.
  • Support Senior Program Manager with documentation, such as reports, manuals, and evaluations.
  • Opportunities may be available to support the capacity building and curriculum development of two other classes: Dream Project and Youth Empowerment Class.


Qualifications/Experience

Education: qualified teacher status (desirable), university bachelor degree in the field of education, English or any other relevant degree.

Experience: applicants with professional or volunteer work experiences in education or teaching English as a second language will be given priority.

Soft skills: the applicant should be capable of easily adapting to new environments and circumstances (preferably with some experience of living in a non-Western country). The applicant should be a team player, have an open mind, strong ethics, and a learning attitude.

Language: fluency in English.
