Publica is a London based public realm and urban design consultancy.
We specialise in providing detailed advice to major land-owners, developers, architects and local authorities on the strategic development of urban neighbourhoods. We work at all scales from single buildings and spaces to large-scale masterplans and area strategies.
We believe that the quality of the public realm is defined not only by spatial and physical characteristics, but also by social and cultural conditions.
Publica’s work is based upon rigorous local area research and analysis, used to produce evidence-based briefs, strategies and design proposals that consider the ground plane, the streets and spaces in between buildings and the full three-dimensional complexity of the enclosure of those spaces.
Publica bring research and intelligence to the design development process on masterplans, infrastructure projects and urban planning. We develop area strategies that set district-wide urban design principles and set out key projects. In 2013 – 2014 we completed five major area strategies, three of which are now adopted local policy.
We set principle-led design briefs for architects and landscape architects. We also produce detailed concept designs for streets and public spaces, working closely with the client and design team. Current design work includes key spaces in Marylebone and Covent Garden for the Howard de Walden Estate and Capital & Counties Properties PLC.

Our multi-disciplinary team consists of urban designers, planners and researchers, graphic designers, film coordinators, artists and photographers. Visual communications are integral to our business and our drawings, reports, presentations and advocacy are highly sought after. In order to expand upon this success, we are appointing a new role of Communications and Marketing Coordinator to consolidate and develop our small communications programme, which encompasses print and digital materials, talks and lectures and an ongoing film programme.
