About usPublica is a London based public realm and urban design company. We specialise in providing detailed advice on the successful integration of new developments into existing urban neighbourhoods – from single buildings to large-scale masterplans. We advise major land owners, developers, local authorities, architects and community groups on public spaces and whole urban quarters. Recent clients include the Crown Estate, the City of London, the City of Westminster and many of the UK’s leading developers.
Clients engage us early in the design process to help establish the identity and ambition of their regeneration plans, refine aspects of the design and assert a rationale for the public realm. We carry out rigorous local research to produce evidence-based design briefs and our work frequently forms part of the design and access statement for local authority planning submissions’. Key projects include the Hanover Square Masterplan: Public Realm Strategy; The Bank and Liverpool Street Area Enhancement Strategies and the Marylebone Lane Public Realm Study.
An ongoing collaborative programme of research, creative practice and international dialogue underpins our practice and we are committed to contributing to the wider debate about cities and contemporary urbanism. Members of the Publica team are regularly invited to discuss what makes successful neighbourhoods and our expertise is sought by design panels, awards groups and other organisations involved in city making. Publica’s research on river piers informed the Mayor and TFL’s River Action Plan; we recently delivered evidence to London’s West End Commission, and Lucy Musgrave has been appointed to Sir Terry Farrell’s Review of Architecture and the Built Environment, the first government sponsored review of the built environment since 2000.
