Reach Academy Feltham

Feltham, United Kingdom

Recommend to a friend:

Reach Academy Feltham is a small, all-through school that opened in September 2012. The school has quickly built an excellent reputation locally and nationally and last year moved into a stunning purpose-built home. In March 2014 it was the first all-through free school to be judged outstanding in all categories by Ofsted.

About us

Reach Academy Feltham was founded by a group of teachers who believe that schools, especially large Secondary schools, are not always set up to help young people flourish and fulfil their potential. We decided we wanted to open a different kind of school, one that took children all the way through their school career, from 4 to 18, one that was small, with only 60 pupils in each year, one that worked closely with parents and, most importantly, one that had the highest expectations of what pupils can achieve.

We believe that every young person has the potential to excel in school and develop the skills, attitudes and academic qualifications to go to University if they choose to. We believe this because of our own experience – we have taught pupils who have made dramatic progress when the expectations are high, when they are motivated and when they are well taught.

We have been inspired by transformational schools we have visited around the world, including schools like KIPP and North Star in Newark, which have redefined what young people in the communities they serve can achieve.

The school opened in 2012 and in September 2015 welcomed their fourth cohorts into Primary and Secondary, with more than 500 pupils in the school.

Why are we exciting?

The school aspires to transform the lives of all of its students by giving them the skills, attitudes and academic qualifications to flourish in any career and live happy and healthy lives. It is an ambitious vision and one that is at the heart of why everyone on our team has come together to work at Reach. We are inspired by the community and the young people we serve and believe that all of them are capable of living lives of choice and opportunity. We therefore do whatever it takes to ensure that our pupil are successful.

The school feels very different in a number of ways. It is genuinely all-though, with pupils currently aged 2 to 15 and ultimately 2-18. It is small, with only 60 pupils in each year and very strong relationships between pupils, staff and parents. It blends formality and structure, with warmth and familiarity: all of our staff are on first name terms with the pupils. It is housed in a purpose built building that was designed to our specifications and is staffed by a bright, committed group of people who want to have a transformative impact.
