You'll be a creative and reliable lieutenant working alongside the company's founder, helping to drive the business forward and meet its ambitious targets. There is a strong focus on researching, attracting and retaining new business; also on being the driving force behind our trade and consumer events.

Given the start-up environment, the role is naturally wide-ranging and changeable, but in corporate terms fundamentally combines the responsibilities of a COO, business development manager and events manager.

You might be an exceptional recent graduate looking for a very different sort of challenge in your first big job; you might already have that big job but want to do something more adventurous.

Red Squirrel Wine has big ambitions, but those ambitions rely on having the right people driving the company forward. The successful candidate will very much be at the forefront of that journey, able to look back somewhere down the road and say, "That's thanks to me, I built that."

If you think you have the energy, enthusiasm and ambition - and, let's face it, no small amount of intrepidity - to help build a new and exciting company, we want to hear from you.

Long-term duties & goals

  • Help achieve company's growth targets and objectives
  • Represent the company publicly and build the Red Squirrel Wine brand
  • Garner a brilliant reputation for Red Squirrel Wine events

Tasks & responsibilities

  • Leading business development and identifying new opportunities to grow our sales among retail and corporate clients
  • Planning and execution of events (both B2B and B2C)
  • Sourcing and other wine-related research (including drinking it)
  • Wine sales in person, in writing and on the phone
  • Communications, including social media and promotions

What we're looking for in YOU...

  • Entrepreneurial, positive and highly ambitious mindset, excited about helping to grow a start-up from the grassroots up
  • Masses of creativity and a keen eye for great design
  • Thrives on responsibility and a productive self-starter
  • Brilliant communicator and people person, able to write copy for the website, blogs, promotional material and engage proactively with customers and clients (most esepcially at our events)
  • Switched-on and multitasking organiser
  • Loves wine, but you don't have to be anything even approaching an expert (that will all come in time, and there are plenty of training opportunities including wine courses)

Skills, experience and bits of paper we think you ought to have...

  • A good degree
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Good IT skills
  • UK-valid driving licence
  • Right to live and work in the UK
  • High level of familiarity with the web, digital / social media and online retail (demonstrable if not necessarily professional experience)
  • Experience in running organisations or projects and managing teams (this could be in your current job or related experience such as running university societies)

Nice to have, but not essential

  • 1-2 years in a corporate role involving one or more of the following: events, communications, marketing, business development or sales (B2B or B2C)
  • Another European language (a bonus if it's not French or Italian!)
  • Wine qualifications, e.g. WSET courses
  • Experience working in the wine trade
