Main purpose of the job

Plan and execute multiple, large, time-specific events each week in which volunteers will be lead through diverse capital improvement service projects at, schools, youth centres and other community based settings. Supervise a team of Project Co-ordinators who are responsible for motivating and leading volunteers at projects and communicating with volunteers via phone and email in the office.

Position in Organisation

Project Leader reports to the Project Manager.
Project Leader is reported to by Your Project Team and Project-Co-ordinators

Scope of the Job

Plan and execute events and manage project coordinators.

Dimensions and Limits of Authority

Closely manage your team of Project Co-ordinators as well as the other PCs (especially when they are on your projects)

Responsible for the running of your projects and the management of all on site staff and volunteers.

Qualifications and Skills Level

  • Be able to work flexible hours and days; including evenings and weekends  
  • Have a great attitude, be a team player and be a self-starter
  • Possess flexibility and an ability to manage multiple tasks, under deadlines
  • Have strong decision-making skills with ability to work independently
  • Be able to carry and lift 9 kg
  • A valid driver’s license and be able to drive to work sites all over Gauteng
  • A willingness to drive a van for transporting project tools and equipment
  • Prior management experience is a plus
  • Possess strong communication skills including verbal and written – must be able to speak to a crowd
  • Have demonstrated experience in project management that includes but is not limited to; strong communication and negotiation skills, budgeting, excellent time management, resourcefulness and supply inventory
  • Know basic gardening/landscaping, mural making, and or carpentry and painting
  • Have experience with event planning and/or charity organisations 

Duties and Key Responsibilities

  1. Plan and execute multiple, large, time-specific events each week in which volunteers will be lead through diverse capital improvement service projects at schools, youth centres and other community based settings. Produce a detailed report at the end of each project - 40%
  2. Supervise a team of Project Co-ordinators that are responsible for motivating and leading volunteers at projects and communicating with volunteers via phone and email in the office - 20%
  3. Work directly with the Supply Manager to forecast project supplies needed while working within specific project budgets - 20%
  4. Participate collaboratively with all RockCorps departments including Marketing, Community, Communications and Volunteer Services on all aspects of volunteer events - 10%
  5. Respond to event inquiries, needs, and/or issues in a prompt and courteous manner - 5%
  6. Perform site visits to establish contact with potential and current Charity Partners, assess sites to investigate if there is a viable RockCorps project, then report findings to Charity Services Team/Project Manager and arrange Project from beginning to end - 5%
