Dedicated to the enjoyment and understanding of geography at all levels, the Society supports and promotes geographical research, education, fieldwork and expeditions, and geography in society. The Society also holds one of the world’s pre-eminent geographical collections of 2 million items that provide an unparalleled resource tracing 500 years of geographical discovery and research.
The Society, a registered charity, is located at the top of Exhibition Road where it welcomes thousands each year to events and activities and reaches out to many more through its website. Membership is open to all with an interest in geography and geographical learning. Members range from professional geographers, researchers and teachers, to travellers and other enthusiasts.
The Society offers a programme of lectures, discussions, debates and exhibitions to support a wider understanding of geography and its important role in shaping travel, culture and history.
