Do you have excellent research skills and experience in environmental science to help us on our 2014 carbon mapping project? Are you passionate about helping Save the Children monitor and reduce its carbon foot print? This is an exciting and challenging volunteer role that will require extracting, analysing, and reporting on our carbon footprint information, so we can take measures to become a more environmentally responsible organization. What will you be doing? Working with relevant staff members to compile information about carbon emissions in Save the Children offices and shops, across the UK. This research includes but is not limited to: analysing carbon emissions as a result of staff travel, electricity usage, paper usage, water consumption. Compiling information into a carbon mapping report to identify the main sources of Save the Children’s carbon emissions, across the UK. Based on your findings, presenting innovative recommendations for reducing our carbon footprint. The Skills You Need Experience in environmental science or carbon mapping and an enthusiasm for environmental issues. The ability to work on your own initiative, enjoy both short projects and ongoing work. Good research skills, communication skills, and ability to work on your own and as part of a team are a must. About You The post offers the opportunity to collaborate with a network of professionals who are keen on improving accountability to the environment in the international non-governmental organisation (INGO) sector, and a chance to contribute to the development of future carbon mapping concepts for the organization. You’ll be volunteering alongside the accountability manager in an exciting effort to help Save the Children become a sector leader in accountability and transparency. You will meet a wide variety of people across the organisation and develop your networks. You’ll be motivated by a passion for environmental sustainability, and an interest in Save the Children and our work. You’ll also bring an entrepreneurial spirit and an eagerness to learn to the role. Your Time Days and times are flexible to suit your other commitments. A minimum time commitment of 2 days per week for 4 months is required. You should be available to spend at least 1 day a week in the office in Farringdon as needed. Additional information Appropriate training will be provided and out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed (travel and lunch)
