We empower young people to own Shakespeare's language and stories, giving them lifelong communication, literacy and critical thinking skills. With articulacy and literacy comes confidence, raising academic and personal aspirations.

Festival Accountant

We are looking for a motivated self-starter, with excellent administrative and bookkeeping skills, who is keen to learn about budgeting and cost control, with a view to being promoted to Cost Controller.

The Shakespeare Schools Festival is the Uk’s largest Drama Festival.  We are currently expanding to work with 1,000 schools, and doubling capacity to work with 2,000 schools in 2014.  In order to facilitate this rapid growth we are looking to appoint a Festival Accountant 


Main purpose of the role:

The main purpose of your role is to keep an official track of company expenditure and income on Quickbooks Pro13; to support the Finance Director in all aspects of financial reporting and cost control; to operate the monthly payroll and deputise for the Finance Director in her absence.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • processing sales invoices, receipts and payments, while keeping accurate records of all transactions on Quickbooks Pro 13, and providing the Finance Director with monthly profit and loss statements.
  • operating the monthly Payroll – calculating Tax, NI, loan deductions;
  • completing all VAT and PAYE returns;
  • putting payroll and invoice payments onto Bankline for authorisation;
  • helping the Finance Director to prepare monthly and quarterly management accounts
  • preparing the monthly bank reconciliation and cash flow forecast;
  • preparing invoices and providing the Finance Director with a weekly Debtors list;
  • updating spreadsheets with all actual figures: costs and income to aid staff with cost control;
  • checking theatre settlements with co-ordinators and advising them on how to invoice for any fees owed;
  • dealing with financial paperwork and operating a comprehensive filing system;
  • providing all necessary computerised files and paperwork to auditors for the annual audit and working with them to explain any queries etc.
